Default Sonar question

I'm fishing in about 30 ft. of water. Catching fish at about 25 to 28 ft. down but they aren't showing up on my sonar unit directly under the boat. It is about a 10 year old Hummingbird. Now and then one will show on the sonar.

When you drop your lure, can you see it on the graph?

I’d guess it’s transducer installation issues.

Spend some time on Google researching proper transducer installations and alignment, make sure you’ve got that set right and then go from there.

Sometimes it is just the transducer itself.
Had an older Humminbird just like your experience.
Was having the same issue that it wouldn't show details or fish all that well and only occasionally. Checked the installation, cables, everything.
Replaced the transducer with a new one and then it worked as good as new.
A transducer shouldn't really wear out but sometimes they just go bad.

Agreed.

That would have been my next suggestion. They can and do go bad over time.

I was trying to save you a few $$$ by making sure you get your current setup dialed in, but a new transducer is the next step. If you can find someone with a compatible loose transducer you can borrow, connect that to your unit and see if you get better returns, then you'd know for sure before you spend the money on a new one.
