Default Camping spot in 305?

I have a late season cow elk tag for 305. Myself and a buddy are going down and want to camp. We will be taking a travel trailer down for a couple days. I've been looking for options and places to put a trailer and so far my best option is just off Skyline road. Anyone have any advice and spots to camp? How's the snow down there right now? Can we get a trailer off the road without getting stuck? The only other option I saw close was Chain Lakes but it's a little far away. If skyline road is our best bet are there better camping areas on the north side or south side of 520?

Thanks for the help.

There is a small campground just north of the gravel pit on the oldman river that's free. Eastside of hwy 22 just north of the Gap road(Red gas station)about a mile east of hwy 22 on gravel road.

Not sure if you could enter cottonwood campground on the old man river but it would be good.

Check parks website to see if they are still open or not. May Croft is ok but very noisy and windy, no services. And now, you can’t just park your trailer in an empty spot. Parks will fine/harass you.

Thanks for the suggestion, we are planning to hunt the north side of 305 so hoping to get something a little closer and keep the driving to a minimum.

Thanks again, sorry I didn't specify in my original post.

I've checked Maycroft and it closed on Nov 15, last year when I was helping a buddy with his cow elk tag we noticed that the gates to this campground were locked closed. There was on camper pulled off to the side of the road right in front of the gate. So we have that option but it's pretty exposed and if the wind picks up it could make for miserable camping there. Always nice to be able to have use the BBQ and have a fire. Thanks for the suggestion.

Beaver Creek? Don’t think it ever closes does it?
It’s also a good starting point for shooting a elk.

If you're hunting the North end, you could try camping at Longview. It's a little bit more of a daily commute, but LV has a heated brick washroom to shower in the morning. Hot food at LV hotel as well....
