Default Is your gun safe fire rated?

How many of us buy a gun safe thinking it's going to protect our stuff in a fire? You might be surprised to read the following.

My green tin box is rated for about 1 degree over room temperature. I have no illusions (well at least not about the tin box).

Mine is an old Tin locker with a big grade 70 chain around it. I think the chain will survive the fire

Nope, never seen the point in fireproofing something that was insured. They get burned along with my Faberge Egg collection, I get new ones.

Built a special room for mine. Fireproof dry wall and fireproof insulation.
Hope it never gets tested.

He said Faberger .......... not Cadbury.

Considering a 1 inch pendant sells for $ 30,000 USD, and is not a full sized egg, which is substantially more elaborate - I'd lock it up too.

I'm sure the full sized eggs themselves are worth $ 100,000 USD or more. Some rare eggs have sold for over $ 30 million dollars.

So yeah ...... I would put mine in the safe if I had one for sure.

The Cadbury ones, that you are confused with, can stay in the fridge next to your hotdogs.

Bought it from CALGARY Lock and Safe
They wanted $3500 was a bank vault
I offered hin $1500 but he wouldn't take it
I left him my ph number
As I was driving home down the Deerfoot he calls me and says ok I'll take $1500
I said no problem gst and delivery included here is the delivery address l moved it twice in Calgary by myself
When I moved here I had B&R transport with a 75 foot cherry picker put it on my deck from the road .

From the RCMP fact sheet

Lock the firearms in a cabinet, container or room that is difficult to break into

I am always wondering what/who defines what is "difficult to break into"

eg. SKS transport case with a padlock?

If the intent is to provide sober second thought/keep prying kids out I would think this would be acceptable?

PS - sorry if this is a derail!

so, 7 minutes sustained assault with a crowbar??? lol

I was looking at a GSA level 5 safe on an auction in the US once... It held 48 guns with a roll out rack... Should have bought it... Trucking company wouldn't have noticed it strapped to the top of a load of pipe...

Mine's just the green steel shell type. $150 from Canadian Tire. Figured why buy something to save about $1500 in rifles when you just lost $500000, 0.3% of what I just lost. Everything you own is replaceable.

Buy a $1000 rifle and keep it locked in a waterproof/fireproof safe but your $1000 tv sits in the open next to your $1500 stereo and $2000 couch

Yeah, but I bond with my rifles in a way that I don't with my TV and couch

Totally agree. It makes no sense do reinsure firearms with a safe when your home owner insurance covers it. Some people have a connection to their firearms, I dont. I would be very excited to have the replacement value sent to me in the form of a cheque and be able to rebuild the collection.

Are you sure your homeowners house policy covers firearms?
I know my insurance company DOES NOT COVER MY FIREARMS

Just out of curiosity, what total value of firearms, will your home owners insurance cover, without an additional policy for your firearms?

X2
I bought an additional $100,000 for additional items, this covers them no matter where or how they are lost. This covers things like wifes jewelry, money, gold, guns.
I really like my safe it offers some protection from burglary and a fire rating plus it looks pretty cool I think.

Really 5000 lbs?
How do you move that?
My safe was around 600lbs and it was one heck of a move for 3 big guys.
