$2.10/Gj tax will do that ( 40% tax on NG). Just wait, it's only going to get better. NG prices are going to continue to rise. The last time we had high gas prices, we had government rebates automatically deducted from our bills as well as a bonus $400 Ralph bucks. I can promise you that isn't coming this time, only higher carbon taxes on original gas price. What will it take to end this stupidity? I know, but Canadians are too soft

And they would still have a 40% tax on gas.

Mine was $345 , the highest it has been. But the majority of Trudeau supporters live where it rarely gets
a lot below 0, so they aren't effected as much.

Couple weeks ago in Kazakhstan, when prices for NG went up, they almost destroyed the country. So good we have better internet here in Canada, and we can release steam just using keyboard.

East coast gets pretty cold, but they are more worried about how few hours needed to collect UI for a maximum amount of time.
And don't kid yourself, lot's of lefties in the west as well. More all the time

My gas wasn't really bad, I belong to a coop and burn some wood, but my power bill was a shock. There have to be people who are in a heat or eat situation as a result and the politicians responsible just don't care.

I'm just happy to see people actually taking notice of what's going on and figuring out it's going to get a whole lot worse.

Me also. It was outrageous utility bills that sent Wynne to the curb.

Mine was $469 for gas and electricity combined and I have the garage furnace on as well all the time, heating just over 3,000 sq ft including the garage, actually with it as cold as it was I was really expecting it to be higher.

Sadly, I don't think outrageous utility bills are going to send the root cause of this problem to the curb

You guys should post up the dates and amount of gas used on these bills. Because I'm thinking some of you haven't seen the charges for the big freeze yet. If your providers are anything like Enmax, they are always a month behind on the billing cycle.
eg. Just paid the bill that showed up last week, we used 10.75 GJ of gas from Oct. 28 to Nov. 26. Total gas bill was $149.84
FTR The electricity on the same bill was Nov. 12 to Dec. 8, so it's not a case of slow communication with the gas company.

Homeowners will definitely be getting their existing attitudes either reinforced or entirely changed by these outrageous tax increases and out of control inflation. I hope condo & apartment dwellers also see why their utility charges increase and get active about fixing the primary cause, and I'm not talking about their insulation, windows or heating systems.

Default $151 all in for gas heat in Dec?

My gas bill for Dec was $151 all in. Not supplemented by wood......just gas. 1,610 sq ft two story with full finished basement. Total heated area 2,600 sq ft. Heat set to 20 daytime and 17 nighttime. Also a 600 sq ft garage heated to 10 degrees.

I'm not even close to what you guys are paying. What size house and shop are you guys heating?

We know that it's only going to get worse, but we can't do a thing about it. In order for things to change, it has to effect the entire country to a degree close to how it effects us.

I feel your pain. I've never had a bill over $320, my house is super-insulated. My bill was less then $170 for actual gas used. Throw all the other fees on top, and $75 for the carbon tax, and it was $420.

But hey, if it saves the planet...

It is disgusting.

Pretty sure Nutley told us we should turn down our thermostat and put on a sweater. That should work. Pacifists we are

Agreed with rednek I’d like to see your guys’ billed usage or rates… these are crazy numbers to me

I live in a very poorly insulated old house. All my utilities combined have never peaked above $350 a month. Not once... Are you guys heating 5000 square foot homes with all the windows open, or what?

For my house and shop gas was$592 and power $233. It’s getting crazy and I feel for seniors or anyone on fixed income.

Utilities is only one part of the inflationary pressure. There's also food, transportation, insurance, and most everything else.

Old, small house as well. The bill (gas + electricity) was never above $360-ish prior either. Here is the last bill:

And we weren’t even here from December 26 to January… 9, I think. The garbo tax came to 42%.

It’s not just tax though. It was cold. November tax was at 35%, we used less gas (12.26 vs 18.67 GJ) but the average price was higher (5.265 vs what you (maybe?) see on the pic above). Last bill was $73.14 in total energy use, $72.36 for delivery charges, $25.78 in garbo tax, plus gst for a total of $179.84 vs $281.77 for December plus 5 days of January, as can (maybe, lol) seen above.

Add $236.35 for electricity and you get $518.12, which is nuts. Especially, like I said, we weren’t even here last five days of December and first five days of January that appear to be included in this billing cycle.
