First Trail Cam Pics

Looks like I found a good spot, the elk came around several times and the bear twice. I found it interesting how they came right up to the camera to check it out...anyone else experience that?

nice. amazing to see how fast antlers grow. yes have had lots of eye balls noses and tongues on my cams. not so much whitetail but elk moose and bear.

They often do, sometimes its fogged up for a bit. Had a few moved around the tree by elk. Had a few ate by bears. Cams seem to fair the best if hung on a birch tree.
Nice horn growth already, likely a bachelor group of 5-6point bulls. I always enjoy checking cams to see what kind of inventory there is for the year and the area. Keep in mind for hunting purposes you want to find the ladies cause that is where the boys will be in the fall. Happy hunting

Finding the ladies will be the fun part. My Uncle has hunted this spot for ages and he said these are the first elk he'd seen in the area in 20 plus years. Maybe I need to put out some lady-bait?

I think the bear did mouth the camera, less than 90 seconds after it came into view there is a disturbing black out pic, then 10 seconds later another pic and it looks decidedly wet.

Mine get mauled in the heavy bush. Must be something in the plastic the bears want to eat. You can use a bear box but the lenses might get a claw though them. I don’t know what to do to make it bear proof.

I am going to mount it higher I think, up around 10 feet and see what happens.

I weld up boxes for my cameras. Two lag bolts inside the box into the tree, lock them shut and the bears stop eating them. If you don’t weld you’ll have better luck hanging them 10-15’ up and a lot of thieves won’t see them either. Bug spray might keep the bears off them too but I’ve never tried it.

Bug spray will melt plastic, may distort or permanently cloud your lense. All the rest is good stuff.
Theft of cams is more common in busy easier access areas, find those little crap holes where no person wants to go, good chance of success too.

To the op, the ladies like the same salts/minerals that the boys like they just often spend time in different terrain or habitat at this time of yr. Some times the cows show up first, latter or never. Just just be willing to move the cam for new data or run more cams.
Elk are expanding there range in a few spots, it is exciting.

Critters will play with your camera both two legged and four legged so I place my cameras up a little higher. Still get pics and don't have the cameras growing legs or licked by a moose....yup they love cameras, curious and will have fun with your camera(s).
