Default First fish on the Fly!

Well it's official I'm a fly fisherman , I'll always remain versatile and open to spin but I sure feel in love with fly fishing this last week. I was was a speaker out at Frontier Lodge this week on Fish Lake near Nordegg and got to land my first trout on the fly, appropriately a little brookie out of Shunda Creek. Needless to say I donated a lot of flies to the tree's but had an awesome time. Also managed a 21" rainbow out of the NSR on a spinning rod (was way to windy for an inept fly fisherman like me). A few shots included

P.S I'm 6 8" so I make everything look tiny.

The trout caught on a spoon is a brown trout, and a nice one at that.

Congrats Tim, even the little ones are fun on the fly rod. We gotta get out and try a few areas one of these days.

It was good, I'm pretty sure that first one was a rainbow, it's not spotted and has no haloes, coloration is unusual for a rainbow but I'm pretty sure that's what it was. I'll dig up a better pic and post it. It went back, so whatever it was it's still there now.

He was referring to the trout caught on the spoon. You had mentioned in the original post that it was a rainbow. It is indeed a brown trout. Nice fish and welcome to the addiction

Thumbs up

Hey Tim, that brookie is huge only slightly bigger than that rainbow I caught when we went out to Cardiff back in June. I am heading out to Shunda creek this weekend. Do you have a list of the multi-pal flies you "donated"? I need to stock up on my flies so I will scour the trees for the bounty you left behind . Welcome to fly fishing my friend!
