Not one person has ever been affected from eating CWD deer. It's the romaine lettuce in the salad, and cauliflower side-dish I'd be concerned about.

Six weeks to get the results back. One would think they would be able to do their checks faster than that.

They would if it were a public health program. However, I think it is gathering data for the biologists. Nonetheless, we were not going to eat ours until we recently received the negative report.

2% active chlorine bleach is the recommended disinfectant. Commercial bleach is usually 6%.
I use bleach 50/50 with water for a one hour soak on cutlery and cutting boards.

That’s great however CWD (the protein) isn’t alive it just exists thus you can’t kill it. From what I understand incineration and possibly humic acid can destroy them.

My doe, that looked perfectly healthy and had ample fat came back positive for CWD. No to decide if I throw it away or make use of it for dog food?

As already stated prions are all but impossible to destroy. Similar prions associated with Mad Cow or Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease have been researched extensively and attempts to destroy these prions have been unsuccessful. Affected dental instruments after being sterilized in an autoclave will still contain prions.

If I wouldn't eat it I wouldn't give it to my dog either.

I just don't like freezing the tenders and heart for a couple months waiting on results. That stuff wants to be enjoyed right away! And yes maybe without the dangers of the romaine lettuce!

No one was ever to be affected by BSE either. We all know how that turned out.
Smart people would be cautious.
