exactly,it's not the word it's the way it is said for instance if you said "this is my newfie buddy" it wouldn't be offensive at all,if you said "look at those stupid newfies" then it would be.the word is fine it's the way you use it.
now as far as a gut pile I have no idea about that, far as I know it's not a common thing in newfoundland

Ahh..Yer true colours are coming out now Lemm....Did some "Newfie" steal your job and your Girlfriend? Most of us don't mind being called a Newf..Just some fella's like yourself get some fella's like airborne all riled up..We cannot control how some Newfs act no more than Albertan's can control how some of ya'll conduct yourselves..especially under a contrived name on the Internet..I don't post on here too often due to the responses by some people on here..the infighting is quite entertaining most of the time though..You will need a Guide on "da Rock" b'y..I'm from there but have lived in this great Province for 22 yrs..I can't go hunt Big Game there without a Guide..I can't stry farther than 200 meters from a Bridge to Fish Salmon..I Live and Abide by the rules of the land..I find most people in Alberta are from "somewhere else" and all get along fine..It's fella's like yourself that like to stir it up now and again..Live and let live my friend..Now off to find a Gutpile! Probably not yours though as I didn't hear a word about your success..And P.S. We keep our "Newfie Jokes " Simple, So guys like yourself can understand them..

This past summer it was my wifes turn to pick our vacation spot and when she told me she had planned for us to travel with her best friend back home to newfoundland i was less than impressed.Newfoundland just didnt strike me as a great vacation spot and i will admit i had the typical Albertan attatuide towards "newfies".
Well from the moment we arrived they rolled out the carpet for us so to speak.First off the family we travelled with cancelled our hotel reservations before we even arrived as their was no way in their minds we were going to stay in a hotel when we could stay with their family.I was not happy with this as i like my own space but my wife asked me if i could just be open to the idea for a few days and if it didnt work out we could get a hotel.
I am glad i listened to my wife as this worked out great and everyone bent over backwards to make us feel welcome from the 1st nights welcome party to the last night when we had the screeching in party to become honorary "newfies" ourselfs.
We arrived just as the cod food fishery had started and when the family we stayed with found out i am an outdooorsman my wife and i were sent out with a brotha to try our hand at cod fishing and limited out every day i was out.
One night i was talking to our host about how he makes a living as a crab fisherman and when he found out i was interested a brotha stepped forward and took us out for a ride on their longlinner boat to see what its about.
One night we were tipping a few up at the "store" with a few locals and one came in from berry picking anid we had a good discusion about berry picking back in alberta and next morning my brotha shows up and takes me off to his secert picking patch.
My wife was talking to a local lady telling her how great the whale watching was from the cliffs just outside of town.Turns out the local ladys husband owns a boat and the next morning he shows up and takes us whale watching in his boat and would not take us up on paying fuel costs.
This is just a few of the experiances we had while on the rock and my visit changed my views of how the other half lives and i gotta admit they got us Albertans beat hands down. From the open door walk in and make yourself at home to the great sence of community spirit and looking after each other when times are tough the people of the rock have a great spirit that you cant find in Alberta anymore.
Oh and the couple we stayed with, turns out they gave us their master bedroom and were sleeping on the floor of their neighboors house so we would have privacy....and they are 25 year my senior. We found this out on our 3rd last night and when we told them we would sleep on the floor they wouldnt have anything to do with it.
A visit to the local cemetary and i found myself amongst fallen local canadian soilders who had bravely fought in WW1 and WW2.Not to shabby since newfoundland didnt even join confederation until 1949.
The term `Newfie` to me means Family,Community and Pride

No! I have never seen anyone do this here in Newfoundland. As for the heart and liver we take it when we shoot the animal yes. So I think these guy's know matter where they are from are a bit out to lunch if you know what I mean.

I too have had experiences like Gramps 257 while serving in New Brunswick. Not the same province to be sure but the same type of people. Stayed at hunting camps, went on fishing trips. lobstering and the whole gamut. People fell over backwards to accomodate you. I felt like I was home the whole 7 years we lived there. Matter of fact they could have been our next door neighbors on the prairies in the 40's as their attitude was the same.

If the people of New Brunswick are so darned friendly could you please tell me why those Alberta workers were kicked out of FRIENDLY New Brunswick this year... complete with a police escort.
I don't see any of us Albertans threatening any of you easterners with physical force to kick you out of this province because you are working here.
This shows what a piece of crap the Charter of Rights and Freedoms are, Section 6 in this case.
It also shows how phoney a lot of these postings are

Greylynx. For your information and running off at the mouth, I don't need to explain myself but I will. I only passed on what people were like and how I was treated personnally. When one is in the Military being treated fairly is very much appreciated when away from relatives and people you grow up with. Denigrating people seems to be a way of life for you and others around here lately. I was based in Chatham from 67-73 so maybe it has changed like Alberta as this province ain't what she used to be either. Population booms and prosperity make for a different culture and sometimes not for the better methinks.

I asked a simple question. Now give me a simple answer. WHY WERE ALBERTA WORKERS ESCORTED OUT OF NEW BRUNSWICK. WHY WERE NEW BRUNSWICKERS THREATENING VIOLENCE AGAINST THESE ALBERTANS?????
VIOLENCE!!! THAT THESE POOR GUYS FROM ALBERTA HAD TO BE ESCORTED OUT NEW BRUNSWICK BY YOUR STATZ POLIZIA
Quit using the liberal tactic of attacking a person's character, That shows you have lost the argument. If fact, attacking a person's character is the last bastion of a liberal.

Don't know. I wasn't there. If you WERE, please enlighten us all. Didn't know I attacked your character either and one thing is certain I'M NOT A LIBERAL.
I'm not an easterner either as you imply. Born and raised in Alberta and spent 45 yrs or so in the Province. 24 years in other parts of the globe. Seriously, though, I haven't seen anything on this NB thing. Can you put in a reference? Thanks.

Could have been a couple of orientals and from what a friend told me, after visiting China, they'd have hauled away the whole thing.

Didn't you know orientatal is a slur now too?....They're called Asians.
Coming from a Newfie/Irish background but born and raised in Alberta, I quote my grandfather "You can call me whatever you want, just don't call me late for dinner!"
Most entertaining thread I've read in a while

So albertans need a guide to hunt and fish in nfld, but you can come to our province<and hunt and fish> , show some respect and if all you know are people that are not from here get out of the closet you live in and meet some of the folks who built this province ,our familys oldest tombstone in our cemetary dates back to 1898.I belive the 1949 vote in nfld to join confederation was 49 % no 51% yes . Albertas wealth has been a boom to the rock also , but as this forum is showing the tolerance of this great province is starting to wane. I have never seen a albertan go through a gut pile .I would hire a philippino over a no respect NEWFIE anyday.

lol..that reminds me. My last name.............when the spellcheck sees it, it recommends changing it to "inbred".
So is newf better than newfie or worse ot the same.......gotta ask 'cause I use newf all the time...as a term of endearment of course.

I have worked with hundreds of them boys on the rigs over the years and I mean hundreds.. Took many of them fresh off the boat and I have to say I love em,, really I do.. Darn hard working boys,, not really the smartest buggers but darn hard working.. I have been dealing with them since the early 90's from the start of the big migration west.. They really are good people but you really have to have patients.. The language barrier is the biggest thing once that is over its not bad.. They are darn hard working people and will do most anything to keep a job,,, trust me most anything..
I love em but God forgive me they just ain't the brightest bulb on the tree,, you know what I mean ??
