Default Day 2 of the Great sandhill crane hunt

We got permission on a pea field last night , allot of the birds have moved on in the last couple days, may have been about 100 specs,75 Canada`s and about 150 cranes,we started set up about 530 , place out 3 doz crane decoys, and 6 doz big foots and three doz spec, the cranes where moving in the dark ,,they are so loud,

we sat at daylight and not much moving, finally we had about 7 specs coming in at us, with landing gear a foot from the ground we took them and the two of us dropped 4,unleashed the little one and she was on her way,,could hear her say these are alott easier to carry then a crane.

we sat for another hour, and nothing going, finally a group of 10 Canada`s give us a look, they made a great circle and came in we took out 5, so two flocks, 9 birds we said lets pack up and find some cranes..with I 5 miles we find about 500, spread out in many fields, we intercept them from field to shallow water pond.Did not take long and we had our limit.

it was neat to watch these birds as they do the exact opposite as a snow goose or ducks, instead of a tornado down they do a tornado up,,,circle after circle till they reach 1/4 mile up and they are gone, had a great time with the Man, I call my Son..

Looks like you are having fun that's for sure!
Though I'm going to have to request you stop posting pics of you pup because she is way too damn cute. Pics like that are going to end up with me getting a bird dog and neither my wallet or landlord are ok with that.

Congrats to you and your son. Looks like a great hunt. I'm not sure I have ever even seen a Sandhill in the field.
