I wasn't going to hunting, that day, seeing as this was the first yr I hadn't scouted not even 30 seconds, nor did I put any camera's up. But, my Oldest daughter was heck bound that I go, she had been counting down the days for my first hunt............and reminded me of it daily...lol
I decided I would take my time, and not be there in the dark waiting. Instead I would start tippy toeing around just after the sunrise.
Almost immediately I found a nice whitey, maybe 160 ish ...but lucky for him, I had made other promises, to my daughter what was coming home that day...lol ( sometimes, I don't think before promising)
I then tippy toed past the whitetail... and got to a spot where I saw some muley bucks out feeding. After looking for awhile, I saw a few more little bachelor groups moving around. Until I finally spotted this guy.
I watched him get out of his bed, and feed for about 45 min, then go right back to his bed. I ranged him at 347 yards, and I decided to move slowly towards him.
2 hours later I was at 114 yards away.
An hour later I had cut that down to 62, that was the toughest part of the stock, as he would constantly look around, and check out things out...and never really looked comfortable in that spot. Even though, 60 is a makeable shot, I bow hunt to see how close I can get, and make all my shots count......( I love the short range hunting aspect)
40 min later, I was at 34 yards....but I figured I could get closer...I was sure I could...eventually I had snuck down to about 22 yards. I knew this was the spot, I didn't want to push my luck anymore.
Just as I got comfortable, and got in position ( which by the way, killed my quads, that was pain, especially the next day....don't try squatting that long...wow ) The big guy decided it was now nap time....( Imagine the colorful words that went through my head when I saw him do that) after about an hour, I had no choice but to stand up and stretch... and quietly get back to position.
Close to another hour went by and he finally moved. I saw him stretch his neck, and open his one eye, as he was facing me. He instantly knew he was in trouble...both eyes popped open, and he ducked immediately . I drew my bow, and waited for the explosion out of his bed.
I saw his butt start to break the top of the crop, I centered my pin where I figured his vitals would be, and waited for the back drop to fill ....as he tried to explode out, I had already sent it.
Arrow blew through the heart, and destroyed the opposite shoulder..... a 80 y recovery was all it needed....
After a couple of calls, I'd like to thank Jace ( my god son) Jeff, Tony, Christian, and Marco for swinging by to help with everything. You boys rock. Also my buddy Al, for helping butcher everything...you Rach to buddy! (lol)
Also I would like to thank Jimbow's archery for always taking care of me and my equipment ( no idea why anyone would go anywhere else) Also I'd like to thank Hyde Hunting and Athens archery....
