2 hunters, 1 PAL. How many guns?
My brother is a hunter but his PAL expired and not yet renewed.
We know he can buy tags, and hunt within arms reach of me (I have a PAL).
Question is, with one PAL, do we have to hunt with 1 gun or can we carry 2 guns into bush? (assumes he is next to me constantly).

I'm pretty sure as long as he is under your close direct supervision you are good to go.

Warden told me it was as long as you're within speaking distance.

Not correct....can you take immediate control of the firearm while in speaking distance?
If you are hunting under a partner tag (ie. for moose) this would be correct.

Direct supervision is what the law expects. While this may have alittle room for interpretation, if I were in a tree stand 8ft away from you and you had the PAL and I didn't, I am in direct supervision and the LEO would be appeased.
1 PAL 2 guns.

Just went through this on Friday with my wife and had the phone the firearms office for clarification you have to be in arms length and only 1 gun allowed you have to be able to take the gun from them if they are being stupid, don't matter if he had it befor or not. Hope this helped

If you're in arms reach, you could have 6 guns each for all it matters; you can only use one at a time.

frustration
Just goes to show the frustration built into the whole system. If you talk to six different C.O's, you're likely to get six different answers. The problem lies in the "open to interpretation" issue. No black and white. I have always preached the "under direct supervision" clause as part of the CFSC, but that is really as far as the system goes. This is the first time I have ever heard the "one gun: stipulation.

So your saying your brother is a hunter and likely already owns firearms, but has let his PAL lapse, so in fact he could be in contravention I'd the CCofC?
What is wrong here folks!?!?

Here's a question which was ask to me by a lady taking her hunter ed class who wanted to go on a grouse hunt one time with her friend. Can someone (over 18) who has never had a PAL, hunt (carry a gun) with someone that does have one? My guess was no. True? I'm thinking they both need one even if that person doesn't own the gun and is not storing it. I told her to ask a warden as I did not know for sure or find the legislation in a timely manner.

Yes they can, they just need to be under direct supervision of the pal holder. Arms reach is normally considered in direct supervision.

CFC site...look under frequently asked questions, the answer is embedded there. The actual legislation, one would have to search the act.

pal question
I have been checked by the c.o's five times in the last ten years while carrying a gun out deer hunting and have never been asked to produce a pal.I don't think they are concerned about it and more about licenses and tags. I was wondering if anyone else has been asked to show their pal.

F&W could care less about your PAL, but I have been asked to produce my PAL, by the RCMP, at a combined F&W/RCMP checkstop, on highway 63.
