Talking Home from our trophy antelope hunt!!!

After tests friday and doctors appointments after, I broke the news to the doctor that we were going hunting... he just stared at me... took a deep breath and shook his head. " You should be in the hospital..." then he stopped and asked when we would return.... I smiled...
Got ready saturday and packed up.
Left sunday morning to go down south for my trophy antelope, got there about 3:30 set up camp and went scouting.
Saw lots of mule deer, whitetails and a few antelope, the kids were just brimming with excitement.
Returned to find our picnic table at another site, as well as our campfire ring across the way The gentlemen let us get our firepit back, and admitted they borrowed it.
Found the table, but that camp kept it along with their own.. whatever... was not going to let that ruin our day.
Lots of hunters, lots of comments about me bringing a buch of kids hunting.. lol Lots of great people too!!
Cooked supper over the fire and the kids and I hung out with Brad, a very nice forum member, finally we headed to our the tent at ten.
Sleeping was not easy, as the wind was horrible. The tent flapped in the wind and bounced around and pulled the pegs.. finally let up some around five, and the kids slept til the neighbour fired up the generator at 5:50... time to rise and shine!!!
Drove to our chosen spot as the sun rose, the colors were amazing!!! Watched a group of pheasants zip in and out of the fence lines . Very neat to watch them! First time the kids had seen an actual wild pheasant and there was eight of them!
Walked around and flushed a few grouse as we went up the trail. Lots of sharptails! Spotted a few antelope, but nothing big. Headed back to the truck and drove to another site we had permission.
Saw a nice little buck and some mule deer on the way there. Spotted a few at the back of a section and stalked, but nothing worthwhile. Kids got a bit of an adrealine rush as they almost stepped on some grouse!! Wind started to gust just crazy!!! Felt like we were going to blow away! Made it to the truck and could hardly get the door open.
Decided to change things up and try the area with a few coulies and low spots. Walked over into a draw and saw three antelope in a low spot. Crept across for a better view and found what we came for. Kids kept asking me"are you sure?" They were so used to me telling them the antelope bucks we spotted were not big enough!!I told them yes!!! Shouldered the rifle, compensated a bit with the wind , took a breath exhaled and "boom!" He flipped over! Kids were sooo excited!! I walked over, gave thanks to God and tagged him. Had a hard time with field pics with the crazy wind, but here are a few... and yes he makes book!!!
God blessed us beyond my exspectations!!!
Congratulations to Brad on his nice trophy too!!
It was an awesome trip!!! Sure glad we went!!!

But , but , if you got him mounted, then you would be staring at his rack
I think that would be an oxymoron

I was really worried about finding one that would go book, they gave out 207 tags this year, and apparently only 15 last year!!

Awesome hunt and some awesome photos!
Feels weird to be hunting in the same province as you, up here in the 500's the terrain certainly looks a lot different.

Congrats!

Southern wind.
I slept in the cab of the truck many times just to avoid a tent
Nice that the kids got to be involved as well.

Good on ya!

Real pretty buck nice work by your crew for sure! Really dig the those turned up cutters. Very good buck for the times! Just not sure about book head though, likely will land right in around 74 to 75 inch prolly, if score could possibly overshadow a great and successful family adventure

Congrats Haeli

Now if that smile in the filed photo does not say it all, what does. Good to see the kids involved in the hunt with you again, spending time as a family.........now that's priceless. Congrats on a GREAT goat.

P.S. Your whitie should be ready for you by the end of the month.....I'll stay in touch with you.

Don't look at it as an expense , it's gonna be a work of art , especially if Marco is doing it .Besides , the next tag is likely to be a long time coming . Congrats on a fine antelope .
