Hey guys i have a savage rifle in 7.62x39 wich is pretty accurate out to 200 yards. Just wanted input if this cartridge is enough for moose up to 150 yards. I have taken deer with no issues at all and ofcourse using a soft point bullet.
I wouldn't hesitate to use it at that self imposed range.
Heck 223 and .410's are commonly used for big game in many areas of the world where legally allowed.
Any cartridge that can put its properly selected payload into and through the vitals will work.
Practice practice practice. One exercise my uncle got me hooked on is running to the 100 yard target stand and back then loading and firing from your chosen field position. It simulates an adrenaline dump when the moment comes. I can usually keep every shot inside 8 inches, but most ranges frown on the practice. You would need someone to flip the flag for you and shadow your gun handling. An audience adds to the challenge as well.

I intended to a couple years back but was holding a .300 H+H when a cow appeared. I purposely loaded 123gr Barnes x bullets and 150gr Sierra .311 Sp's for better penetration in my CZ 527 carbine.Harold
There was a guy from Manitoba pulling the factory bullets and reseating 120 gr Accu-Bonds on top of the factory powder charge, recrimping. Would need to test accuracy of course!
