Default Hunting gear/check list?

Hello all, I'm sure most are either out hunting, getting ready to go out hunting or are waiting for their season to open.
That is what I am doing, waiting for my drawn moose season to open on the 24th. Ive been tinkering in the garage and getting a few things ready for our moose hunt and I was looking for my old hunting gear/check list to which I cannot find.
Does anyone have a list they would share with me and others?
This will be a hunt where we set up our wall tent camp out of the truck on an abandoned lease and we will be taking quads too to retrieve a moose if we are lucky enough to harvest. We don't have to worry about packing light, we will be taking all but the kitchen sink.

Thanks for any info in advance.

Cheers,
SS

I would add a good head lamp and spare batteries coming out in the dark with free hands is allot easier and safer.

Are you asking about a checklist for your camping gear and all that or just what you put in your daypack? Either way its a pretty personal thing and everyone will be different.

For a day of hunting all I generally take with me beyond my rifle and binoculars.

-Knife, compass, lighter, tags, TP, a few spare rounds, a bit of cord, headlamp, camera, water bottle, and a sandwich bag of sliced cheese and sausage. I can get all that into my pockets or a belt pack.

Sometimes for a more extended wilderness hunt I like to have a little more gear on me, as well as a pack so I can at least haul a bit of meat when I go for the pack frame, should I shoot a moose or elk. I have a few extra things I put in there.

- extra sweater, rain poncho, space blanket, more water, folding saw, sharpening stone, GPS, spare batteries, extra compass, matches, more cord, a garbage bag to minimise mess while packing backstraps.

A few other items such as better rain gear or more warm clothes can be added according to conditions.

Pack some "Wipes" with you. Doesn't matter is Huggies or whatever, they're great for taking blood off your hands and knives.

Depending on how long you're staying out for & how many guy's, I'd be taking alot more than one roll of toilet paper.

Yep, and giving the old gonads a scrub once in awhile. Long johns are the perfect breeding ground for heat rash, and nothing puts a damper on a hunting trip quite like not being able to walk without searing pain.

Thanks guys, some great tips here. I was hoping for a full gear list including camp gear.
I have misplaced my list that Ive had for years and am now going off of memory.
We have 4 guys going and I don't want all of us packing the same gear, don't need 4 of everything. Anyways, thanks all and I will continue to look and build a new gear list.
I need to simplify a food list too, any thoughts? Hoping to make some items in advance and freeze so we just have to warm up when we get back to camp after a long day of hunting.

Cheers,
SS

Extra mantles and globe for lantern (I bought a mesh globe 3 years ago and I havent broken a glass one since!)

Bungee cords for the tarp instead of tying lines right to the gromets

toilet seat so you can make your own "outhouse" out there

chain saw, sharpening file, fuel/oil
swede saw, axe

fire starter kit like dryer lint or whatever you like.

extra batteries for your gear, lights, radio

coffee, I've also started packing instant coffee for those mornings when you don't want to bother perking a pot and just want to get going and hunt. I also pack some "Ensure" or other meal replacements for same reason. I love to cook an awesome meal at camp, but I also often just want to get up and hunt.

freezer bags of various sizes to keep things organized and dry

rebar reinforcing wire...I keep a little roll cause you never know when it will come in handy.

knife sharpening steel

marking tape

solar kit for charging small things like a phone etc.

Pre made meals like a big bag of frozen spagetti or chilli or soup etc.
Again, I love cooking, but I'd rather be hunting.

I like the idea of more premade meals. I would love to hear some ideas of what guys premake and freeze to take hunting.
we will have a 3 burner cookstove and a bbq to cook on as well as the woodstove top. just missing an oven I guess but I'm sure we will manage.
Keep the tips and gear list coming.

Best of luck to all this fall.

Cheers,
SS

My mom and GF made a bunch of goodies for me and the fellas last year. We usually take 2 weeks off in November. Some ideas for frozen meals.

cabbage rolls
chicken pot pie
pizza
chili
hamburger soup
lasagna

To get us through the day, we bake a ham before we leave and just keep it in the cooler. Works well for sandwiches and lasts a while. I also like something light in the morning if I am going to do a big hike. Muffins, yogurt, trail mix, water and gatorade.

If you guys have more ideas lets hear them! can never have enough food

Never hunted before, but seems to me: (for birds anyways)

Medium to large backpack
2 x 1.5L water bottles 1 filled with water I with recovery fluid (water, sugar, salt, lemon juice)
3-4 protein bars
Paper towel/rags
1 garbage bag
Large mesh bag
Well stocked first aid kit with epi pen (I'm allergic to wasps)
Big bowie knife or machete
Small Recon-1 folding knife
Medium sized axe
Tarps, extra socks, rain gear
Matches, fire starting accesories
A couple small well charged LED flashlights
Compass
Binoculars
Notepad and pencils
Good waterproof hiking boots (I got some nice Heli Hansens)
Proper clothing
I'd be packing my Mossberg 935 with 100ish rounds of proper ammo
And my Mossberg 500 shorty ready with 15 or so 3" slugs in case something I'm not hunting is hunting me lol (.357 would do it if it were legal)
Maybe a gopro

I know that's a fair amount of stuff but I'm in top physical shape and I have no issue whatsoever packing 40-50 lbs of gear in any terrain for extended periods of time. That's the part I'm looking forward to the most-earning it by pushing myself. I am much more hyped about the physical aspect than the shooting aspect.

Don't forget the obvious like your rifle / bow / spear, etc. And I'm being serious.... my buddy and I used go go out bird hunting after school when I was young, but we'd also bring our rifles in case we saw a deer. The one day we had a chance on a decent whitetail, buddy forget his hunting rifle and only had his shotgun loaded with #6.
