Default Cheaper alternatives to the GoPro?

Hey all,

Any recommendations? Anything that's decent but cheaper than the GoPro?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Honestly, they're hard to beat quality-wise...

And IIRC, no other comparable units have 4K capability. (Go-Pro HERO black edition only)

Spypoint has the new 4K out. I have two HD 1080p hunts and they work good.

Brother owns one. works great. its a clone to a Gopro. Even uses the same mounting gear. Buy it and don't look back.

If you are doing a head mounted camera the Contour Roam makes a great option.

I am also interested in seeing how the Revl Camera does when it goes on public sale. Looks very interesting.

Even if you don't produce in 4K, a nice aspect to shooting in that 4K is that you can crop to 1080 in post and smooth out your shot (take out the shake etc.)

Check out the Sony action cameras as well. They aren't as sexy as the GoPro, but they might have some of the capability you are looking for, at a lower price point.

If you look on kijiji for action cam, you will find quite a few options from new and used go pros, clones and different brands of cams.

How do you get the curved / rounded look out of your Go-pro recording ? I have a couple but the spy point my son has kicks its ass in my opinion. Crystal clear .

The GoPro software has a feature that corrects the fisheye for you. It's not too bad.

The gopro is great for closeup action nothing else. I wore mine in my head during a pdog shoot couple weeks ago and when i checked the footage at home none of the hits could be seen even the close ones. Its great for filming on a boat while fising. I still like it and will use while quading and snowmoboling.

Check out the newly released Olympus TG Tracker camera, has pretty good reviews and Olympus stuff is great.
Not much cheaper but worth a look.

I bought an SJCAM SJ4000 but be very cautious where you buy it as the first one I bought, it was fake( got my money back and kept the fake). They are very easy to use like a gopro and only difference is that the colour is a bit off, but only noticeable when taken with a gopro side by side.

I don't even use mine. I always have every intention of using it but then don't. I think I've used it for a combined 10 minutes... so mint condition used ones are out there

I bought a sjcam sj5000 off amazon for about $125. I find it comparable to gopro for a couple hundered $ less, they also come with a multitude of mounts in the box unlike gopro. Like gloszz mentioned make sure you do your research and get a real one not a knock off. I found that it helped to read the customer reveiws to determine the real from the fake.

We just bought a Drift for jet boat racing. I love it. We had a Go Pro but the battery was fried and we needed one.

I love it. The best feature I found is that there is a screen on it for aiming it. Also you can play back videos on the spot, which is handy for us to check our lines on a race course, etc.

I think I paid around 350, but they have last years model in stock which was a pile cheaper and I wouldn't have lost much on features going with the older one.

Call Renee at Maximum Powersports in Peace River at 780 624-8952. They are amazing to deal with.

I bought one from Memory Express called MuVi...$200 and came with a TON of mounting kit options and waterproof housing...has a lcd screen on the back so you can see what you are aiming at and replaying the video or viewing the pictures. There are 2 drawbacks with this model though- 1)shape of device is not square but rectangle(when snowboarding and mounted on board the shape can cause camera to move/change angle due to the forces acting on it)
2)good picture quality but not as good as my gopro. ie some fisheye at edges of frame sometimes..great value though! The mounting options are awesome and lots of them, not to mention what a waterproof housing would normally set you back. great price

when I am scouting in the Foothills and Mountains, I find all kinds of game cameras just hanging in tree's. I must have 20 of them now. They sell very fast on Kijiji.
