interesting idea on the sand, but wouldn't the sand make the broad heads dull? I know sand makes a good back stop for rifle or pistol, never thought about it for bow.

Yes it would but so does shooting into anything ...I never use my "practice" broadheads for anything other than practice, my quiver gets nice new sharp broadheads only.
A box stuffed with old blankets etc. works ok. I used this for a short time. Then got frustrated always messing around with it, ended up buying a rhienhart 18:1. Have shot it two years lotsss of shots and I bet it will last two more.
I am using a "yellow jacket" target works great for broad heads but SUCKS when it comes to field points, won't release the arrow at all. Cost me about $50 bucks out of the States.
Sand is the next best thing if you have the room and the wife will put up with the mess.

Trades I would interested in:
- Sightron rifle scopes, 4.5x14x42mm or 4x16x42mm
especially! with the HHR reticle. (no duplex pls.)
- older 6x fixed scopes with fine X or target dot.
I used to shoot into a sand bank but found the arrows would completely disappear into it, had to dig then out, guess the key is hard packed sand. Homemade I found a block of dense styrofoam worked good ( denser the better) but eventually gets shot out over time Look around worksites or even craft stores. But a decent store bought broadhead target isnt that expensive and lasts years
Expanding foam insulation. Sprayed into a box.
Let each can cure a bit before adding the next.
I have found that on occasion some of the material sticks to the arrow.
Use a cloth and maybe some alcohol if required to clean it.

I get 4" rigid insulation from work and hang it so it swings when hit it works great. I do have practise broad heads that are dull and sharp ones would probably go through.
