Default Winchester 748 vs Bl-c2 powder

I'm loading for .223 55gr and .308 147gr and have found win 748 to be a great powder. Unfortunately I only seem to find these in 1lb.
But no problem finding Hodgon BL-C2 in 4lb and 8lb.
I'm looking for a little insight to how it is for accuracy and how easy does it meter?
Thanks

Never had an issue with Blc2 metering .
Burns a tad dirty for some people but it never bothered my shooting

Both 748 and BLC2 are made in the same factory in Florida.
Essentially they are the same powered from different production lots.
This doesn’t mean you flip flop them without re working loads, but starting loads in both are pretty much the same.

IIRC Blc2 was used as a powder for the guns in battle ships , and we used to be able to buy it REALLY cheaply as well as H4831, which also was a surplus powder.
Blc2’s biggest problem was fouling of the gas systems of the M16, which proved very detrimental to those poor buggers that were issued the M16 in Vietnam Nam .

I have both and used them in several cartridges. They don’t look the same and I think they are different. I had several loads with blc2 where I could sometimes hear the striker hit. It’s never happened with 748 I much prefer the 748. Especially in 223 in cold weather with 26 gr. Blc2 which is not a reduced load I would get obvious hang fires.

Come to think of it I never tried 748 in 223 but I bet it burns better than blc2

Ball powders are hard to light up, that’s why lots of data recommends the use of a magnum primer.
It’s even worse in cold weather.

I have used Win 748 for decades, with no issues over thousands of rounds.

Default Vietnam

They changed powder part way through the war upping the ROF that increased fouling all the time preaching the M16 was low maintenance. With predictable results before the forward assists were added.
