Default 500 Yard Standing Offhand CHALLENGE

Rman, that is some pretty skookum offhand shooting. I notice some kind of "sight" on your gun. How does that setup work. I punched in your calibre, bullet weight and speed and it drew me this trajectory (I could not find the barnes bullet but this should be close)

Are you still able to see the target with that sight? I am assuming one would have to aim pretty high to compensate for the bullet drop.

I have a .450 marlin and i am keen to see how far i can lob a bullet with her

By the looks of that graph, his 38-55 would have been at quite an angle!

As long as you have enough elevation on the rear sight, an adjustable aperture, and a front sight insert of the appropriate diameter, some patience, and the ability to process the information provided by actually shooting at targets, you should be pleasantly surprised at how far you can hit the right sized circle.

The line of sight remains flat, regardless of the angle on the rifle...
And again, lots have shot this round further, and more accurately, well beyond this distance.

Why don't you just ask? Is something going on here that you don't feel you would get an honest answer? Especially since you really haven't asked any questions in first place.
What can't you see happening?

Really sounds like you just need to say something. What's on your mind?

The target pictured, was shot with the rifle pictured, according to rules of the challenge. You seem to be the only one that has an issue with this. I don't see a target of yours posted, or much of a discussion of an attempt to participate.

Again, you seem to be bothered by all of this.

Not sure why?

If you have questions, which it surely seems that you do, why don't you just ask them?

Can't really see it...
Where is your target? Your participation? Your contribution? Your thoughts as to what you are seeing, that you so obviously can't believe?
I thought we were all to be on this forum to discuss, participate, and contribute.

I did.

What are you doing?

Well I did the 300m challenge with 2 AO members as witnesses. I did it with a rifle that was suited for the challenge. I failed. Who witnessed your shooting?

Rman take the advice you gave me! You do not have to explain anything or prove anything. Based on your posts I think you are a trustworthy and honourable man as well as a class act.

So, because you were unable to do something, it means that no one else can? That is nothing but a poor attitude.

I had several people witness my shooting, some AO members, some not. What does it matter?

For a so called "competitive" shooter, you really seem to be missing some basic knowledge. Maybe you need to hang around with a better group of fellas in order to gain some insight as to what can be accomplished?

A larger vernier sight was used for the shoot than the Lyman sight pictured. I usually use Lyman sights, but my longest stem did not have enough elevation to get the job done.
Once finished, I re-installed the Lyman sight, and re-zeroed the rifle at 100 yards, as that is where I like to shoot it the most.

Just more of the typical bullying attempts that tend to get made.

Sad really.

You do realize that is inches on the Y axis? How angled is a rifle holding 45" above line of sight at ~300 yards?

Some people just like causing arguments and you are right about the bullying.

I was posting in a fun and friendly thread the other day that an AO member wanted to take into a different direction, anyway I felt bad for the nice fellow that started the thread and was describing a fun day in the out of doors. Because of you and how you helped me I gave him some advice similar to yours and he was appreciative, but deleted pictures and stop posting in his own thread! Check it of the thread is called The Quest For Supper, which you will find in the search tab.

Again thanks for your insight, maybe one day we can hook up and I can shoot with you because I would really enjoy that!! I can’t wait to use my 300 WSM and Huskemaw for this great and fun challenge!
