Can you show us the recovered bullet? Would like to see expansion at 500. Curious on velocity as well.

I’m strongly considering buying this round as the rifle I want can’t be bought in 300wsm.
Everyone here regret buying in this caliber? How much for shells and easy to find?

Factory loads are limited in selection, and can be difficult to find at times. I expect that with more manufacturers chambering this cartridge, the selection of factory loads should grow considerably, and availability should improve. Brass for loading was nearly impossible to find at one time, but is becoming easier to locate.

Are you happy with the performance? Would you consider another caliber knowing what you know now?

6.5PRC impressed me this season.
Shooting factory precision hunter ammo 143gr Eld-X was sub MOA easy.
Shot both a whitetail and a mule buck. 200 and 260 yards. Both pass throughs on the front shoulder and liquified lungs. Both DRT.
Looking forward to working up a load with 140gr LR Accubonds and stretching her legs a bit.

I like the accuracy, velocity, recoil etc, but I didn't use the cartridge to kill any big game yet. I like the.264" bore, having owned rifles in 6.5x47L, 260REM, 6.5CM, and 6.5x55, and the bit of extra velocity of the PRC will only be a benefit.
I did shoot one box of factory Precision Hunter loads, while waiting for my dies to arrive, and the three shot average at 100m was .355" , which is the best that I have had from a factory rifle, with factory loads.

Unfortunately, ammo, brass and heavy hunting bullets have all gone extinct. If you're thinking of buying a 6.5prc, think again.

Actually, some proactive vendors like Prophet River were holding back some ammunition and brass, for the people that purchase a rifle in 6.5PRC.

He just sold his last box of Hornady. He has some Gunwerks stuff available for $154 or $184/ box of 20. Otherwise, nothing left in Canada. Same for brass. The ammo shortage has silenced the 6.5prc.

I have used the 6.5 prc for the last 2 years hunting. I have taken a moose using 127lrx and this year 140 accubonds on an elk. It has performed very well and will probably use it from now on. Reloading your own is the way to go with these relatively new offerings as store bought is so hit and miss.

I saw two 50 round boxes of Nosler brass sitting in a store a few days ago, and they are still listing one box on their website.

Brass is out there, just have to search a bit. Snagged 180 once fired cases. Ammo is available too. Got some from Ellwood Epps.

I built one 4 years ago and wished I had not gone this route because of the lack of 6.5 stuff that can be found right now. I reload and so I bought 2 - 8lb RL 26 and 1300 156gr bergers and 200 ADG brass so I will be good for the barrel. I would like to shoot some ELDx but they cant be found and I haven't played with the LRX yet.
If I was going back in time I would have built a 7saum.
My gun weighs 8 lbs 13 oz scoped (#4 barrel) so its middle of the road between my mountain rifle and my target rifle.
My gun is shooting 156gr pills at 2985fps from a 22 inch barrel with all that said I still feel under gunned for moose and elk even though I know the ballistics are there.

Pic below is the 300wsm -208BTHP beside the 6.5PRC 156 gr

That is why I mentioned in post #28, that Barton's Big Country in GP had quite a bit of 140 and 147gr ELDX, as well as 153 gr A-Tip Match. I'm even willing to pick up and ship for an AO member if they are interested.

Thanks I believe Hornady only make the ELDX in 143, the 140 and 147 is the ELDM.
I’ll be in GP next week and will stop in for a look, I usually stop at any hunting store I can i case they happen to get a random shipment of powder or projectiles hahahah

Ah, my mistake. I don't use either so wasn't aware of the difference. I was down there yesterday looking for small pistol primers, and they told me they are expecting a shipment mid next week of stuff.

6.5 prc
Shot a cow elk at 500 yards using Barnes 127 LRX. Broadside bullet in offside hide 52gr of 7828. Out of Savage 110 light weight.
I didn't save the bullet. Getting 3010fps so roughly 2122fps at 500 yards. 1270 ft. lbs. energy. Was good enough to smash through the off shoulder. Happy with the performance so far!

I recently bought a couple hundred ELDX 143gr from Corlanes. They had 36 boxes. As far as brass Neerlandia Co-op had a good selection of Lapua 6.5 PRC.
As far as the cartridge, I sold a 270wsm that was pushing a 145gr ELDX @ 3247. Now with 142gr lrab I’m having trouble getting 3000 FPS..
So I really didn’t gain anythIng. What I did gain was a rifle with mild recoil that doesn’t use a lot of powder that’s fun to shoot. As far as a hunting rifle, for deer sized game I prefer to pack my 257wby. If moose or elk are what I’m hunting I’ll pack my 300win mag.
