Default Barrel Tuner...

I am wanting to experiment with a barrel tuner on my CZ 457 Varmint rimfire rifle. I am looking for input from anyone here who has experience with a barrel tuner on a rimfire rifle, such as where you sourced your tuner and how it worked for you. I also need a source for a 1/2"x20tpi to 1/2"x28tpi thread adapter as both of my CZ rifles have 1/2"x20 muzzle threads. Sounds simple enough but I have been unable to find one in Canada, I may need to have a couple machined for me. Thanks for looking and for any input you can provide.

Did you try insite arms in Lloyd?
They manufacture their own tuners

I went a different direction with tuning. I used a savage mkll that consistently shot .3/8" groups at 50 yes with federal match low vel ammo. I played around with a limb saver slide on tuner and rubber o rings.. they absolutely worked. It was very fiddly and time consuming ( but what else does a guy have to do during winter right? Lol) I have many 5 shot one hole groups to show for it. In fact my rifjecwent from a 3/8 agg to under 3/16 agg once I had it properly figured.
I'm sure a thread on will be much faster lol

The best looking tuner I've seen is the reddnobb Tuna Can
Insite makes a decent tuner
PVA does as well

It does seem to work with rimfire as I've seen it work on multiple rifles.

I used Harrel Tuners. Excellent product, easy to set. The big advantage to them is they do not need threads. They basically clamp on. You do however have to bore the clamp area to be close to the size of your barrel and Harrel does that for free when you order the tuner. They work on anything from .750 to a little over an inch. They may make them for smaller diameter barrels but I don't know that for sure.

Most of the thread on ones can be ordered in various thread sizes so you should not need an adapter.

I'm with you on this. I start about 20% of total barrel length from the muzzle. Usually find the spot near there. No Muss, No fuss.

Yep have used one, and even on the 10/22.

Totally worked in tuning, and you could see when you hit a good node.

I was down to 5/8" groups at 100 M with the 10/22 using Eley action ammo. While not a huge feat with a bolt gun, the 10/22 was on a different level with a 16" barrel. I'm sure if I had better ammo, those groups would have been smaller.

This is the one I used:

I'm curious how you determined that, this is on the 6.5SS correct? One trip to the Range for load development with some once or twice fired brass to tweak a final load and test the function of the tuner, would be enough to be able to come to that conclusion.
I mentioned on your other thread I'd appreciate some feed back, could you give some details please.
Thanks

I used a standard 20 thou off the lands and I made 20 rounds @ .2gr increments
I found a flat spot where 4 different charges had a velocity spread of 3 fps

I made up another 25 rounds at this middle of this window and tried out the tuner
I had a control group that was just the muzzle brake
And it was just under an inch
There is markings 0-4 on the tuner
So I started at 0 and went up .5 per group
There was a noticeable difference as I changed the tuner position
My groups got larger then they started to get smaller
To the point that they were in one hole or one ragged hole. Then as I moved away from the node, they were getting bigger again
Was actually pretty neat to see

I had one shot that was out of the norm so I have to retest when I get a chance but I can tell it made a big difference

That's exactly how they describe them to function, I was sitting on the fence the last couple years as to whether or not it would be worth while getting one, Thanks.
Control group was established with the brake attached, the Insite Tuner mounts on with it, why not use both to test?

I used both
The brake threads into the tuner
Best of both worlds

Seems to be the trend as of late. I've had one of their 3 ports sitting on the shelf for a couple years trying to figure a use for it, I had a 6BR AI barrel threaded thinking I'd need it to spot misses on steel at distance but that turned out to not be an issue.
Had it opened up for .284 for the threaded barrel on it, so we'll see how the slow twist 6 build goes before adding a Tuner to the .284.
I'm curious how the 100 yard tune will hold up at 300 yards or further, also the adjustment setting for the tune when the weather gets hotter since that's the main reason for considering one, tune changes for atmospheric or temp, for me anyway. That's not the only reason or use of course.
Thanks

This is my basic home-built barrel tuner. Works similar to a Browning BOSS.

I like how you can remove small amounts of weight at a time

I see Positrac has done the fine tuning as well

Ya I think it maybe easier to adjust the turner to conditions than playing around with powder charges or seating depth

Sent you a pm on a quick Google search for a Canadian source. Will have to pay postage probably if it works out.
