Default 45 lb Musky

Here's a 51 inch long Musky my nephew caught this last weekend at Eagle Lake, about 3 hours east of Winnipeg in Northwest Ontario near Vermillion. Approximate weight 45 lbs. And yes, it is ALL catch and release. Too bad we don't have this fish in Alberta! He also caught a 45 inch, a 48 inch, and another 45 inch long fish the same weekend! This is the time of year for catching the big ones. Fast trolling in cold water just a week or two before freeze-up. They are fattening up for the winter.

When I joined him a couple of late falls ago, he was clearly intimidated about my Alberta fishing prowess, so he took me to lousy places on the lake, and we were skunked!

That's a nice fish!

When I was a kid growing up and reading fishing magazines, I used to always daydream about musky fishing. I've never had the opportunity, but it's one of the species near the top of my list.

Eagle West Resortis a very good lodge specailizing in musky. Trevor is a oil patch guy who relocated to the area specificaly to fish musky, The lodge is completely off grid and very well appointed. You wont be disappointed. !807 227 5297 Trevor or Phyllis

Don’t they call them the fish of a thousand casts?

What a beast!

They are called the fish of 10,000 casts actually. If you want real hot Musky action you go to Lake St.Clair between Lakes Huron and Erie. They don't tend to get a lot of 40+ pounders but multiple fish days are extremely common, often double digit number days all season with fish in the 40"-45" range.
