Default Looking for a Springer?

Have to say we’ve been really happy with ours.

Edit: Please contact the OP by PM to get details of the breeder.

Does anyone have first hand experience how these dogs would be for hunting?

Ours is from the same father different mother. She was only 5 months old last fall, so introductory season, but I can tell you it didn’t take long to learn bird scent. It’s fun to watch. I’ve worked with her a fair amount over the winter and spring and she’s an incredible retriever with dummies. The Dokken bird dummies are a nice tool. I’m pretty excited for this fall.

Thanks sns2. These pics don’t do justice to her energy level. She associates the e-collar with retrieving anything…decoys, ball, frisbee. When I pull the collar out of the cupboard she’s immediately bouncing off the walls. It’s pretty comical.

Beautiful dog. Do they not dock their tails anymore?

This breeder doesn’t. I did some research on the subject and there are varying opinions. I’ve watched lots of YouTube videos of springers at field trials and hunting from different parts of the world and some are and some aren’t. It wasn’t priority for me, but as my previous springers were docked I did some research and concluded it wasn’t a concern nor would I dock at a later date. My understanding is that if docking it should be done when very young (around a week old).

The only reason there are pheasants on this green earth is that God decided the Springer was the most beloved of his canine creations and they needed something to keep them happy. So he made pheasants as well. Beautiful dog Camdec.

I believe Vets voted to stop doing medically unnecessary procedures like tail docking and ear pinning

Field Bred Springers don’t dock tails, you won’t see a dog at a trial with a docked tail.

Dew claws are must to leave intact for any dog retrieving on ice in my opinion unless fellows like polar plunges with their hunting clothes on

My apologies. I had included an instagram link to a post the breeder had saying they had a litter of 9 with only two pups spoken for. I believe they are about 3 weeks old.

??? What spaniel field trial have you attended.??

Field bred dogs are not docked to "Show" or Bench standards. That is a 3 inch tail.

Most Field bred dogs are actually docked.
Field bred dogs are typically docked 1/3 to 1/2.

Wait until you pay a vet bill for a destroyed tail an you'll gladly get tails docked.

Lol. Just saw this. Well put and so true. Pikergolf, I believe we spoke last spring when I was looking for a springer pup, but at the time none available. I hope all is well.

Most Trials in Alberta, all CESSC and ESSA when I was competing.

Agreed, by docked I meant the stub you see on the Show Dogs.
