Default Switch rod

I recently bought a switch rod setup to get into the two handed rods, but had a tough time casting it, so I mostly use my single handers. Any recommendations for how to improve casting? Any resource recommendations?

Thanks,
Q

Start here. The fundamentals of spey casting will get you started.

Have to agree, watch on youtube this fellow using the single spey cast. Start off doing that cast but use a floating spey line that will work with your switch rod. Once you have mastered that cast then you can start exploring sink tips etc.
Also, remember you can also overhead cast with a switch rod. You will find with two hands you can cast much further than with your single hand fly rod. You can verify this by doing some practice casts at a park for instance.

A private lesson will do you wonders to help you learn the basics of the cast and a few different techniques. It helped me a ton.

Thanks for the advice, and I’ll have to check out that channel. I’ll also have to consider lessons.

Rio has a ton of videos on Spey casting that are very helpful. They cover everything from rod setup to knots to various two handed casts.

The have recently changed their website which makes them a bit harder to find but poke around here and you will find more than you can digest
