Default Broadhead weight and total arrow weight

Just wondering what you guys and gals take is on Broadhead weight and total Arrow weight required for different species at 60 pound draw weight?
Just looking to see what you all use for white tail and blackbear and elk and moose? Currently my draw weight is 60 pounds. 100 grain QAD Exadous
Gold tip expedition Hunter arrows 5575 8.2g/inch
Total weight 377 grains
Quest G5 with 60# limbs.

Thinking of going heavier for moose/elk. Total weight in the 400 to 450 grain area to not loose too much speed.

Thanks

I personally like heavier high FOC arrows for all applications, right now I’m shooting 125gr TOTA 4 blades in the larger cutting diameter with 175gr of added weight at the insert with a 70lb draw. Don’t remember my exact arrows weight but its heavy and the foc is over 20% which I like.

IMO there’s a happy medium with weight, FOC and speed.

If you go heavy up front, you need a stiffer arrow, which is also heavier.

With that comes slower speed, and a bigger drop at distance.

You don’t need a 20% FOC arrow to kill anything. A 100gr head with a standard insert on any hunting shaft will kill.

I’m running what I would call a happy medium out of my bow, 100gr wasp boss, 110gr ethics insert, VAP TKO 300 spine, victory spot nock. Total arrow weight is 525gr and it comes out of my bow at 273fps.

I lighter weight shoot flat bowsof about 42 pounds in my later years , really slow by today's compound bow standards .
I also like heavier cedar arrows and broadheads of about 145 - 160 grains grains.
The balance for me is a heavy arrow flying straight out to about 30 or 40ish yards which the only thing I will shoot at is small game at that distance
If I can bring my bow up and release an arrow into my target at 20 yards in a split second, I'm good with that.
Been shooting recurves and flat bows since 1966 so I'm a bit set in my ways and I'm okay with that

I’m thinking of picking some outserts for my VAP’s. Where did you pick those up? I have same arrow but use QAD exodus BH.

I also think the whole extreme foc is a waste of time, yes it does work but there's no point in chasing a percentage. I'm pulling 70 lbs and shooting match grade Easton Axis in a 300 spine which are 9.7 gpi, running a 50 grain brass insert with a 100grain slick trick up front my arrows are coming in around 497. I have no idea what my foc is and don't care because my setup flys great and packs a pretty good punch.

The most important thing is having a setup that you shoot well, whatever that is. But with a properly tuned bow at hunting distances I like the performance of a heavy weight forward fixed blade, especially the penetration on larger game. A lot of people avoid fixed blade heads because they aren’t shooting a tuned bow or have form imperfections causing less than ideal groups, I used to be the same but I’m happy with my setup now. Not too fast not too slow, KInetic energy doesn’t matter at all in a bow but momentum does and mass matters once you start trying to push through tissue with a projectile.

The speed crowd will never agree with the extreme FOC crowd .

Its vax vs no vax in a different language.

I did this on my old bow (60 lb, now a backup) to resolve some broadhead flight issues. Ended up having to go 20-30-40-45-50 on the sight pins which is kinda annoying, but it shoots well. I don’t have the specs handy but it’d be close to what you are thinking of.

If you aren’t having issues, I don’t think you will see a benefit in penetration. You aren’t underpowered for moose. You will see a difference in trajectory however. Seems like more cons than pros

I will chrono my current set up and likely just go to a 150 grain head.
This will bump my weight from 377grains up to 427 grains.
I’d like to keep my QAD Exodus 100 grain setup for deer and switch to the 150s when I get to go for moose or elk but Switching requires tuning and I have to zero each time. Maybe the 150s will not be too slow or not drop too much and I can have a one and done solution .

So any suggestions on 150 grain heads? I’m thinking cut on contact possibly 2 blade ?

Just an update. I did Chrono my 100 gr exedous and I was getting 309 FPS.
Once I get the 150s I’ll get another speed and see the difference in poi

So does one just throw a completed arrow on a scale to calculate this or is there something else involved?

Buy a book called "how to tune your compound bow" it is a bit dated but an easy read and will answer most, if not all your questions.
