Default Canada Goose

Not good. I know there are a number of people on here that are in the know. What's your take on this?

Exclamation This will impact the fur market

Here is the Reuters article as posted in the Calgary Sun:

Parka maker Canada Goose to end use of fur
Reuters Publishing date:Jun 24, 2021

Luxury parka maker Canada Goose Holdings Inc said on Thursday it would stop making its products with fur by the end of 2022 as the company looks to become more environmentally conscious after years of backlash over its use of coyote fur.

Several Canada Goose peers, including Versace, Michael Kors and Gucci, have recently decided to go fur-free, while apparel makers Nike Inc and Gap are looking to make their products more sustainable to cater to eco-conscious shoppers.

Canada Goose, known for its $1,000 parkas, will also stop buying fur by the end of this year. It had in 2020 unveiled plans to introduce reclaimed fur into its supply chain.

The company has long drawn criticism from animal welfare organizations such as the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), which has called it a symbol that “represents anything but warmth,” as its winter parkas have their hoods lined with fur trim.

Canada Goose’s website, however, says it still uses natural down in jackets, even as PETA alleges the down industry uses painful methods to kill geese for making jackets.

We'll see how their sales are. I don't like their coats or their company but it sounds like they will build a Walmart type product. If they give in on fur it won't be long before goose or duck down is out.

I would say the majority of the Canada Goose coats I see people wearing today are knock offs anyways. I think it would hurt the fur market more if the counter-fitter's stop buying fur.

Their original Parkas were excellent coats. They were the standard for use in the NWT and any arctic winter work. They even made a model that had a flip down flap that you could zip over the bottom of your feet that allowed you to use it like a sleeping bag. I have not bought or used one of the citified models.

They were a huge consumer of Coyote fur, they will have an impact on the market. The better quality knock offs may well take up the slack though as I doubt there were many of Canada Goose's clients who are worried about fur, most actually want it. China, has become a large market and enviro consciousness is definitely not a thing there. My bet is their sales will actually suffer once they eliminate fur, at least I sure hope it happens that way.

I doubt it will have much of an impact on the company sales wise. Most people I talked to didnt even realize it was real coyote on their hoods. I hope it kills them but I doubt it.

How much longer until they are pressured to stop using down? They already capitulated on the animal rights group on the coyote fur. Pretty soon they will be nothing more than a cheap made in China coat with nothing other than the Canada goose logo differentiated them (along with an extra 0 on the price tag). They’ll never see one of my dollars

Opened quite a few stores in China. Doubt they will stay open long. Fur is important to the Chinese.

Perfect coat for ice fishing in Nunavut or Alaska.

Too hot for southern Alberta

The Mantra model is the one which I am familiar with while out on the tundra while doing patrols. The warmest and functional coat I have worn.

Knock offs don't make a majority of the market. I read a study out of UBC that followed the chinese knock offs of certain high end clothing items. or counterfeits. They found there were small pockets of counterfeits. But the actual number of real to fake was heavy in the favour of real items. you would get pockets around the area where they are manufactured and then to certain hubs that would send them to areas that had demand. But the real item has a much better and efficient distribution and the majority of people want the real thing. demand just isn't there for the knock offs for them to be a majority.

Pffft. Appeasement's never worked. Either the enviros, or governments won't let a successful company go until they're no longer profitable.

So stop using a natural product and go with synthetic products which are bi products of oil… yet they’re trying to eliminate the use of oil so what will we use then? People are crazy and have no clue!
