Default Martin

Just wondering for those of you that target Martin , some happy with prices , some not , will prices drop or stay about the same , lots of uncertainty , is it worth targeting them over coyotes, received permission for a area to trap some Martin in if I want , they will be a new species for me to target ? Will have to invest in boxes & forming boards . Any ideas , tips or suggestions or general opinions welcomed , thanks

I don't know if there is any value in trapping the martin bird but, the MARTEN furbearer is still bringing a decent price for the effort invovled.

Seen that the grammer nazis have already brow beat you because of the spelling, lets go to what this forum was designed for. And that is for information and ideas. What I use is beaver for bait and a bit of Martin magic lure. Set out boxes early so that they get used to them. Sometimes I will pre bait just to see if they are in the area.

Marten prices have really dropped this year. Three years ago could get $200, last year dropped to average near $100, now average about $50. Large heavies can still bring in near $100 but younger light colored fur brings only $25. You might consider saving your marten area for prices to improve. We need the Russians back into the bidding game, may happen with improved oil prices.

I averaged 65$ USD in the last sale...happy with price considering the work involved in putting them up

No one knows what the prices will be like but coyote seems to be in good demand right now. Why not trap both species and just cut back on the number of snares and traps that you put out if time for putting up your fur is an issue?
