Last winter I caught eight in the same dirt hole set , All I did was rebait every time I caught a coyote .I was using O Gormans South west predator bait and coy urine for attractant. Some times I would slap some Forsyths bait in there also. It doesn"t hurt to switch a bit .

That's not what I asked . I asked when a dirt hole is not visited how long should I wait before freshening up the bait ? Days ,weeks, months ?

I will give this another go:
The dirt hole set: KEY components :
1; LOCATION ! More important than anything else! CRITICAL!
2: PREPARATION :
Making the set the same way all the time!
3; Clean equipment: No gas or tobacco
juice
4;A good solid trap; Sterling, MB 650, , KB compound, JC Connor.
5;BED THE TRAP SOLID! YES I SAID BED THE TRAP SOLID! no tippy jaws etc.
6 Drill hole at an angle about 10 inches deep . and bed trap about 7 inches in front and lower , NO mound over the pan!
7;BAIT : Use the best you can afford , O,Gormans , Forsyths,
8; After you have done your part , LEAVE the set alone and stay as far as necessary , ONLY close enough to see it is still working! Get binocs If you want to know how long the smell stay ? Just rub some on your shirtsleeve and a week later give your wife a big hug! Because you cant smell it THEY CAN!
9; IF the set has been worked , IE: visited , LEAVE IT ALONE as long as the set is not frozen or burried, burried is not a big deal it will work long after IF not frozen.
After and here it is:: IF nothing has hit it ,after 7 to 10 days check it out , rebait and relure or add urine
footholding is a game of patience!
IF you connect , You may remake the set WITH the SAME trap or change it out!BUT at all costs RESET why ? BECAUSE this set has worked! it may be your glory hole for the season!
Same hole , same bait , UNTILL it no longer draws attention, THEN rebait with a new bait .
Any snare man on here will tell you that the key to connecting coyotes in snareing is to LEAVE THE SNARE as long as it can still work!
IF they used that trail before , They will use it again!
So This works for me and I,m still learning , I have no videos, no books and I don"t charge $300.00 a course! Some of you may be critical of my advice but it didn"t cost you anything and works for me! Good luck .

For me getting the right location to place your set is the most important IMO,SOLID bed of your trap is super important as any little movement will cause a dug up trap and an educated yote,is you Catch a skunk set is now even better as well after you have connected on target animal then really has some appeal now as scent from animal is every where and I personally just reset dig out hole and walk away, last season had numerous catches doing exactly that, cheers Peter
