Default Let see your gear

Little different thread than trash talking other brands....

Let's see what you're shooting. Not an animal pic just your bow. Explain what it is, what you have on it and why you like it and maybe what you don't like about it.

Maybe give someone new to archery or someone looking for new gear some ideas.

This year will be my second year bow hunting and bought myself a new Hoyt Powermax. I don't have much of a review on it yet as I haven't shot it. As soon as I held it in the shop however I knew it was mine. Feels very light in my hand at 3.8 pounds and is balanced perfectly for me. 60# draw weight and I'll be shooting some Easton FMJ out of it. After my last thread and thinking about it I think I'll top off those arrows with some grim reapers. I wanted to go with the Slick Tricks but thought why not at least try the mechanicals. It's a package bow so not much for accessories or top of the line gear on it but I'm hoping I can learn a lot about tuning a bow this year and if I'm lucky take a nice bull elk again with it.

2013 Hoyt Charger
TightSpot, Black Gold Micro Adjust Sight, WB Rest, fuse stab, Maxima Arrows, Grim Reaper heads.

Upgraded from a PSE Stinger 3g last year. Shoots like a dream. Really like the pin brightness on the black gold sight, and its easier to pull at 62lbs then my pse was at 54 lbs. Cant wait for bow season to come around again.

Nice Bow. I noticed you said you have not shot it yet they did not let you test shoot prior to buying just curious. Lots of good guys on here to help with tuning if you run into any trouble.

Honestly I didn't have a whole lotta time that day to shoot it. I didn't plan on buying one just kind of happened. I had the whole family with me. It felt right in my hand, price was good so I said set her up and I'll be back in a bit to pick it up. I'm sure they would have had no problem letting me shoot it if I wanted.

My 70's Bear Magnesium Takedown Recurve. Bought it as new from a collector 4 yrs ago. It was original factory brown (yuck). I spray bombed it flat OD at first. Last summer stripped it to bare metal. Epoxy primed and stippled finish.
Limbs are custom built #3 length from Rose Oak Bows. 54# at my draw. Makes a 60" bow. Limb covers to protect the finish from nicks and scratches.

I use 55-70 patriot carbons with 350 gr. up front. Total arrow weight 680 gr.
I keep it simple. Nothing mechanical to worry about. Works for me.

How much did you get for your Stinger if you sold it? I'm sadly getting out of archery due to financial reasons, so I'm looking to sell my PSE Stinger 3G sometime soon

I haven't got a lot of time behind that sight honestly.

I'm normally shooting my target bow with a single pin sight and I thought that the MBG 3 pin would be less cluttered than a 5 pin and still have the adjustability if needed. It gives a good sight picture to frame with your peep and the pins seem nice and bright to the end of legal light.

If you want to have say a 20, 30, 40 pin and the ability to dial for distances beyond then I'd say it would be great for you.

Ya, Neil, but damn it shoots good. I liked it so much I bought another

This one has an anodized brown riser with Realtree Xtra limbs.

Qad ultra rest
Bee stinger 8.6 stabs
Spot hogg hoggit 5 pin.
Same arrows and quiver as the other one.

I'll shoot this one until my harvest brown Carbon Defiant Turbo appears! Then we'll see which one gets the nod. Did I mention I like brown kool-aid? beat you to it Neil! Lol

Think I will try it out looks like it would be perfect for spot and stalking some bedded mules while having your fixed 20 & 30 for treestand hunting
Thanks for sharing

Cool

Excalibur Matrix 380 XTRA
Custom Boo Strings
Target 1.75 lb single stage Trigger Tech Trigger
Hawke XB-30 Compact Scope
Dr. Stirrup Full Kit
Custom 18.75" Black Eagle Zombie Slayers w/ Luminoks
125 grain Mechanical Spitfire Broadheads

80 yard broadhead test:

Certainly would not shoot at game at that distance, but practicing there just as certainly makes responsible ranges a tad easier!

Cheers,
Nog

I shoot a hoyt nitrum 30 28" 74 lb
Axion 5 pin sight
Axion stabilizer
Trophy taker whisker biscuit rest (soon maybe a drop away)
Easton fmj 340 fuse quiver
Slick trick broad head
Scott release
Bow shoots at 318 fps with current set up

I love this bow shoot it extremely well. Had a Mathews helim before this and it took my confidence away no matter what I tried I was unable to get less then a foot group with the Mathews. I have owned Mathews before had a ultra 2 and legacy while I was a teen and shot them great that helim though I had no answers why I was unable to shoot it.
