Default Help with Trapline

my friends dad suddenly passed away and trying to finalize the estate. how and who do we talk to to transfer the name/ownership of the trapline to his wife so it can be sold or is it possible that she can keep it in her name and have someone else trap it for her to keep it active for when the son is able to take it over? does she need to be a registered trapper to maintain ownership?

Family member that is a qualified trapper usually given first opportunity to transfer line as new Senior. If no trappers in family will revert to the crown and will be given to F & W/Biologist first choice of new Senior.

Some of us may need to have trapline assets in our wills. If you have one or more good cabins on your line we have more skin in the game than F & W. Also may need a good lawyer to protect your property from expropriation by the province.

Always good to protect your assets and have an exit strategy.

When our line transferred last October that was the case. It was one of the questions the new Senior Holder asked in the interview with SRD. (They're still SRD to me) Spouses are automatically Junior Partners without formally buying a trapping licence.
