I'm not sure what you mean by support wires.
I've heard that some guys use a large loop and therefor need to support the loop.
I use a small loop and don't need to support the loop itself.
The only wires I use are the wires, or rather, wire, that attaches the loop to the drag. For that I use haywire. Some call it machinists wire or mechanics wire, but haywire is considerably thicker.
Mechanics wire is typically 16 gauge or thinner, Hay wire is typically 14 gauge or thicker.
I prefer 16 gauge.
