You have it made. More are going to go this route too. The cities are getting way too pricy to just live day to day, which is kinda ironic in that a certain government counts on votes from them.

Just got our power bill for an empty house on the SK side of Lloyd. Fridge empty and plugged in (should really be unplugged), a freezer and a porch light that comes on at night on a timer. Bill was $150 for the month.

I’m not sure that I have it made…but it is a satisfying lifestyle..we built everything…it’s still a work in progress though, and just to confirm what you already said..whenever someone comes by that has not been here before..they are pleasantly surprised as they turn to their spouse and say…hey this is all we need.
I still have too much stuff…so in spring huge yard sale..gas is going up, I need some cash…anyone for dice? Lol

The whole table broke out in laughter. My cousin told me later that night that about half the people he knows there fish all summer and collect pogey and ride their new sleds all winter.

No such this as free, you will pay one way or another.

Your gas may be free but you still have to pay for all the BS fees like delivery, admin. Etc.

I'm not even close to what you guys are paying. What size house and shop are you guys heating?
My 720 sq ft house (no basement) and 24x26 garage was $453 for power and gas combined. House is set at 16 degrees for the most part and 18 when I'm around, garage is set as low as the thermostat will let me, probably about 10 degrees

I just about jumped out of my skin when I saw the total on my bill

Just got the gas bill- $349.

I just did year end, and power was nearly double over last year @ 3800.00.

I nearly shut off the gas in the garage, but after 16 years there is not a crack in the floor anywhere, and it is going to stay like that.

Something drastic needs to happen.

15 years ago gas was over $11/GJ. The GOA was subsidizing our gas bills. We even got the $400 ralph bucks. Guessing that ain't happening this time around. Hang on, it's going to get WAY worse. With the increase in the scam tax coming up and if gas does what I think it's going to do, I wouldn't be surprised to see it double next winter.
Might be a good time to get into the firewood business

$815 for gas and power combined. I’m disgusted. Cold month but that’s about $250 higher than I’ve ever paid. Was never one to look much at the fine print but all the fees and taxes are down right criminal. I can’t even imagine how this will look in 2030 when we’re taxed $170/tonne. Surprising how many people are unaware that this will be happening. It’s surreal that we’re paying through the nose for a resource that’s in our backyard. This country is a mess.

How do people afford this?
My last heat bill was 120. That included most of the last cold snap. My electric bill is usually around 100-150 every 2 months.
I’m in BC though, in the elk valley.
My wood stove has been going since October. Older big house, 2x4 construction. My furnace still comes on when it gets colder out.

Right now the carbon tax is $2.10/GJ on natural gas
As of April it will be bumped up to $2.63/GJ
Another 25% increase.
Not sure what the price of NG will do between now and then. Can't see it dropping

Power/gas bill was $400 for December. Installing a wood stove just went up a few notches on my priority list.

Some crazy bills across the board....I live in town, 50 year old house, December bills-Power Epcor $102.85 Gas Direct Energy $274.82.

Always wanted an acreage/shop but put 3 kids through university, so that didn't happen....

My last gas bill for Nov 14-Dec 15 was $370.99

I am less than enthused to see the one for Dec-Jan.

Reading here had me worried about my electrical/gas bill. Last billing was for 211.19. Bill came today it was 304.00, was a nice surprise. During the cold snap we turned the blower on the furnace on to blow constantly. Don't like the carbon tax of around 27.00 and then having to GST on it.

Furnace fan runs yr round along with overhead fan in living room, keeps air circulating and no cold vents in the winter, air comes on in the summer and the same.

well I got u guys all for beat! Just POWER only last bill 991.55 !!! unreal.

so I dug out some stuff

dec 2019 - .073 @ 2060 for 308
dec 2020 - .061 @ 2527 for 320
dec 2021 - .118 @ 2800 for 570
jan 2022 - .147 @ 4500 for 991

my misc charges have went from 140ish to north of 200 as well, nothing different from 20 to 21. - 1700sq ft, plug-inheater in pumphouse and barn and 4 water bowls.

I'm on Direct Energy Regulated - thought the REGULATED means something lol, any other companies to try??

Last night went to walmart for dog food and a Direct Energy booth there and they can do .079 across the board - seriously thinking about it.

Is anyone with them and happy? letterhead on bills is same just bills different colors and different address, seems like same company but not?

thx
