All I can say, after admitting that I did not click on the provided links, is that the world is still full of hate in spite of all we have learned from our mistakes.

Genocide is happening as we sit here in our comfortable chairs and even the UN is looking the other way.

My Mother's Family lost many friends and business partners from Geisengen, Germany, the day the Nazi Soldiers arrived in a fleet of trucks. The roundup was very real.

As foreigners who supported the Monarchy, and were very anti National Socialist Party, my Mother's family felt the same hatred, even though they had lived two generations in Germany. However, they mostly survived.

The German economy was shattered by the reparations from WWI when Hitler came to power.

The Jewish people were accused of profiteering from WW I and its aftermath by the Nazis.

Many Germans blamed the massive unemployment on any minority available, as well as foreigners.

The loss of influence and territory after WW I was a matter of national pride for the Prussian North of Germany where Hitler found his power base.

But the world was very much complicit or complacent in what happened in Germany as Hitler rose to power.

The movie Voyage of the Damned was the fact based account of a ship full of European Jewish immigrants being turned away from country after country before returning to Europe to be taken to an awful fate.

Canada and US turned these people away, based on religion.

That is the sin that all the World has to remember.

With Jews there's a racial component as well, they were everybody's favorite whipping boy long before the Nazis came along. In revolutionary Russia they were vilified by the Bolsheviks as Capitalists and by the Royalists as revolutionaries, since many of the Bolshevik leaders were Jews. No concentration camps in Canada, but Jews were on the fringes of proper society, barred from membership in organizations, even golf clubs and generally considered second class citizens.

The Soviet Union wasn’t much better towards Jews. If you are applying to the university- they had a quota how many Jews they can take. It wasn’t official but rather unspoken and was regulated by the party.
As a Jew, you had to be able to get the approval of local party elites if you wanted to make a carrier move higher than the average worker. Any managerial position would require that kind of approval.
Anyway, I am glad there is no more Soviet Union… But I still have clear memories.

Truly some of the most horrible acts in history, and hard for me to believe that this happened only a few years before I was born. Like Grizz mentioned, mankind (sorry Justin, I don't have a "woke" dictionary) still hasn't learned from this.

Thankfully Canada is a modern, progressive democracy and nothing like this could ever happen here. /s

This kind of quota and regulation existed for any national group, especially in national republics. This way they tried to balance national representation. At some point it makes sense. In Canada it is in place as well.

I think it might be because some can't believe man is capable of such evils. But we are....... I used to believe we'd never again go to war over idealistic beliefs as in WWII and it would be more about resources, but I think I might be wrong. Need to keep teaching the kids........

As for the link above, interesting perspective for sure, but very much Communist propaganda.

One of the stories I heard was from a man testifying at the trials after the war. He had collapsed on the stand. I will paraphrase his statement when asked if he collapsed because he remembered the horrors.

I did not collapse due to that. When the defendant was on the train platform gesturing left or right he looked like either a god or something super natural. When I see him here I realized he was just a man. I collapsed because what I saw on him I realized was in all of us.

Again it may be a story or it may be the truth but it is definitely frightening.

The horrors of what man can do to man are hard to fathom unless you live through them and see them through your own eyes.

History is full of many examples of this, and our Jewish friends, families, brothers have suffered amongst the worst of this.

All of us should take a moment and teach our children about this so it never happens again.

These days the kids receive their history education through the likes of youtube and other social platforms and that content is normally served in a manner which best suits the need of the provider and rarely if ever touches on the actual facts or truths.

There are people in the world that refuse to acknowledge the evil that mankind is capable of; they think we have been completely civilized and such things are no longer possible.

I don't know if you're a member KGB, but this tells what its like when a minority is unarmed and at the mercy of a savage majority and not even close to being illustrative of how often it actually happens:

Mankind is not civilized and his domestication (like with pigs or cats) can quickly wear off given the proper circumstances, impetus and lusts that are indulged. I knew a Bosnian civil war vet and remember Bosnia, Yugoslavia held the Olympics in Sarajevo. Then Tito croaks and it falls apart. Quickly. People who went to school together, partied together, worked together took sides and now old hatreds came out and the killing began. Within a year the commodities in the destroyed landscape were booze, cigarettes, ammunition, food but you had to worry about snipers and women. This can happen any where any time to anyone. Iraq and to the Yazidis for example. Mankind can be noble but he can be a beast too.
