Double Taper Flylines

For nostalgia I am bringing my grandfather's old South Bend model 47 9' bamboo rod out of retirement. It calls for calls for a 7 wt line and he taught me to cast using a DT line so i figured I would try to set it up the same to try staying true to memory.

I am having trouble finding a double taper line anymore, almost everything is weight forward.

Cortland makes a DT 7Wt, but finding someone who deals with Cortland is also a challenge.

There are a number of Euro DT lines but I cannot seem to find a way to compare how they measure the line in mm to understand where they would fall into NA standards of 7 weight etc.

Wondering if anyone here can help out.

Can’t help with your question about correct weight. Both Rio and SA make DT lines still. I went looking for them awhile back because I’m frugal and usually don’t make long casts but couldn’t find them in the stores in Edmonton.

I do use DT lines. You have to order them as the FF public has been switched to WF stuff.
Please examine the web sites of the line you chose to make sure it is actually a 7 weight.
Rio, builds only one line that conforms to the AFFTA standard.
Sci, Angler builds several. Unfortunately, they don’t produce a 7 weight.

About 1/2 of Cortland lines are built to standard.
Order a Cortland 444 DT7 in peach colour. It is the one most often enjoyed by bamboo guys.

Don, Thanks for the answer. I was trying to find something local, but I guess the world has moved to internet shopping.

The Cortland was the one I was targeting. My search turned up as you say with the other manufacturers, 6 weight is about as high as they go.

The search continues.

I have used double taper lines.They are the best for dry fly which is of course the original and purest form of fly fishing.The presentation is more delicate in my opinion.
