Default Ducks today

I was able to get out for a limit of ducks today. I have a new dog and this is the first time we have been out duck hunting together.
I know they aren't all big fat green heads but I didn't have time to scout so I went to a DU site East of Calgary and set up half a dozen decoys and a mojo.
I was able to knock down 8 duckies in about an hour and a half.
I forgot the camera at home so the pics aren't that great. One of them was badly smashed up so I left it out of the picture.
Enjoy

Nice work daryl. I am just on my way out the door to go and shoot a field with about 500 snows 2000 ducks and 100 maybe more Canada's. Glad the specks are gone and the big northerns are down. So much fun to shoot 20 + pound geese.

If you bothered to read he said he left 1 out as it was "badly smashed up".

Wow, a whole lot of fail in this thread. Except for the first pics, good lookin dog!!

You need to get out of the city and come on a shoot with me. Never shot big birds hey, that's alright, we can't all get the big ones, I suggest you at least aim at them though.

You shoot a goose and have it weighed on a certified scale and it weighs 20lbs.. Ill pay you a grand!

I wouldnt be calling people failures,, because you actually have no clue how heavy a BIG canada goose weighs.

You bet, I can walk out my door and limit out any night I want 10 minutes from my door step. As a matter of fact I limited out tonight on some big ones that will push the 15 lbs mark chump. Looks to me like some one is a little jealous. And besides I hate having to defend myself to some clueless easterner. Do a google search bubbles and next time think before you talk. That should stir the pot. If you want come out east and I can sit you in a field and you will literally sh$t yourself. Or just yak your mouth, you seem to be good at that. By the way, pay up, looser

You betcha.. you just give me the range road and township road the night before.

But when there is no 20 pounder in thereand more likely not even a 14 pound bird,, you are going to come on here,, and state publicly how clueless you actually are.

All this measuring. "Mine's bigger"
What has that got to do with a guy getting his new dog out for ducks?
C'mon guys.

The dog did pretty good. He broke on me once but I was able to call him back first before sending him. He had a real bad time with a pintail though. It was a fairly long retrieve. When he got out there the bugger kept diving. I finally called him off and we picked it up later when it went to shore. I guess this is just on of those things that a dog learns to deal with on their own.

He keeps wanting to sneak over and grab the dead ones though. Funny how a dog that size can be that sneaky.

Pretty sure that OG is going to be keeping his money. This debate has come up before on another forum with a serious prize being offered. 20,000 + members ALL of them waterfowlers and nobody collected the prize for several years and a big reduction in weight.

A bunch of "mud ducks" as some folks refer to them. I don't care, I needed to get the dog on birds and it was a good experience for him.

To top it off, it's only about 30 minutes from home.

Sorry Cowtown guy I sent you a pm.

Sjemac that contest started at 20lbs,, dropped a pound a year and stopped at 15 pounds. The contest sponsor ended up awarding the prize to a guy who sent in a 14.8lb bird. And we know there is some incredible waterfowl hunters on that site,, accounting for probably a half million or better birds a year.

I see gadwall, mallards and bluebills in that mix. Even the bluebills are good eating this time of year! Gadwall are great eating. I never seen how a person shooting all mallards was any better a hunter than the guy who takes a limit of other ducks. I mean it's not like they are limiting on black ducks or anything.

Oh I know all about the contest, being a mod there. I just was holding back on the details in case Rhino decided to back out. Oh well.

Google ain't a dead goose on a scale. Are there twenty plus pounders out there? Yep. Probably only a couple dozen total though. Even the giant Canadas don't get even close to twenty very often.
