Out looking for salad before the real meal..... wish we had early season trout in the south other than the Bow or stocked lakes most of which are no more thanks to our leaders

There's some places to fish early. I'm assuming you are in Calgary since you mention the Bow? You can try some of the red deer tribs or even Oldman River below hwy22. The Crowsnest also has an open spot (check the regs). The main reason many areas are closed in the south is to protect cutthroat trout spawning. Best to go north for Browns and bulls. You probably already know that but just pointing out that there are other options. If you mean the winter kills yeah that was more north like Rocky Mountain house as far as I know.

I drove down to the Crowsnest area this spring a couple times to scratch the river fly fishing itch. Never been there before. It was great. Hook-ups were not plentiful but it was just so nice to be standing in a stream, casting and looking at the mountains. I have always waited in the past until the local mid-June opening around here and hope a flood doesn't prolong my agony even further.
