As a 2.5 year member he's likely just a man of few words, but I've seen some new posters lately whose lame contributions have me expecting some classified ads to be popping up from them once they hit the minimum pre-requisites or slightly beyond. Naturally these posters will live in another province so that payment has to be sent electronically. Heck, some might show up in this thread yet!

I bet we've been watching the same new posters, as I've also been anticipating the great sale items, out of province. C'est toujours la même chose....

This thread clearly shows the uselessness of minimum post count. Whether it's 20 or a hundred, it does nothing to deter scammers. The higher the minimum just means more meaningless posts. Takes ten minutes to make 20 posts.

Just make it a time frame. 6 months. Simple.

This. Kind of a ballsy move to be so public about it, though. But making inane posts just to make it to 20 so that you can sell stuff will cause at least some folks (like me) to avoid transactions with you. A person's character, as evidenced by their posts, is a contributing factor in the decision to purchase an item from the.

Nothing wrong with the original posters original post. Just because someone has 10k++ posts makes them no more trustworthy than someone with 50.

It does however make them less likely to be posing as someone they're not, nor are they operating numerous 10,000+ post accounts for when their other 10,000+ post accounts get banned for classifieds fraud.

Well you made it,,don't mind these other guys being all in your grill, if that was your goal to get that last one in then congrats and if it's just to sell stuff that's ok too. Do a few face to face deals to get your rating up. I never ship or get shipped to. I had a name on here with over 7000 posts once and I'm still just as trust worthy when I started back up with this name and have a great trader rating, anyways,,, good luck and welcome. Ps watch out for the cup half empty crowd, and water off a ducks back.

The mods are on that pretty close and monitor ip addresses often, my son was running his name on the home computers when he moved back home and I got threatened to be banned for running two names on the same IP address so he left the forum and never came back. Remember, they are watching and no excuses will save you.

There's lots of AO members who share households and thus IP addresses, husband & wife and parent & child, etc. I suppose it just needs to be brought up with admin if they take issue. Though if one IP has 9 new accounts in the same week it's likely going to be something else entirely. Dick284's son is a member, others too though no other names come immediately to mind. Therefore it's not written in stone....

It took me a while to get over the 20 post mark, just gotta ask some questions and answer a few of your own and it all adds up after awhile.

Not everyone that wants to be able to post in buy and sell is an out of province scammer.

I just sold one guy over $800 worth of fishing gear on Kijiji, including a Scotty 1106 downrigger and some center pin mooching reels. I needed to do it that way because I couldn't post anything here. Then, right after money changed hands, someone posts on here looking for downriggers. That's their loss then.

The guy gets a good deal because I gave him a volume discount. I could have made more in my pocket selling individual items or a couple here and there.

I have no problem getting rid of or preveventing spammers, but it's a big pain to people who are legit.

On the flip side, not being able to post can prevent people from buying stuff as well. Now I have $700 cash in hand to spend and can't post any WTB threads.
