Default northern lights

hey,
anyone in or around Hinton see the northern lights tonight? they were really bright and moved and flashed like iv never seen.

question, what exactly are the northern lights? like what makes them do what they do?

You have some time Phantom? Try the Wikipedia first - it might be the simplest explanation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurora_(astronomy)

The lights were not that spectacular but certainly visible here in East Central.

I could see them way down at the US Border tonight.....just a light haze of green down here but still very cool to see.....

ya they were really bright here and flashing, Iv never seen them liek this....just curious what everyone else saw

Its the Eskimos celebrating Eskimo New Years , lotsa fire crackers.

Last night the wife called me out onto the deck, we shut off all the house lights and enjoyed the show. I don't remember ever seeing them that bright and all around us including in the skys south of our house. Lots of colors and movements were fantastic! We watched for about a half hour. Its nice here on the acreage no city lights to dim the show. South east of Strathmore is where we are watching them. To bad my son was in bed sleeping he would have liked to see those lights.

Kelly was up in Peace River area and told me about them as well. Good night for them I guess.

i was way back in the bush on the simmonett and they were crazy....it was like green day light on the roads...pretty cool none the less....night shift in the bush is always cool...

They were pretty spectacular here in Jasper as well. Here is a photo that a friend of mine took from Old Fort Point.
