Default Animal Markings / Rubbings - any idea what did it?

A little new to identifying animal markings on trees so hoping somebody with more experience could help us out. This evening my son and I where wondering around the back of our property and saw two trees that looks like something rubbed the bark off. The markings look fresh and we have not seen them before. The markings on the first tree are about six or seven feet up the tree and span for about a foot or so. The markings on the second tree are a little lower to the ground at about 4 - 5 feet.

It doesn't look like porcupine to me (we have had them before) so wondering if anybody can tell what might have made these marks?

Thanks for the help.

I would guess Porcupine from what I see.

Happy hunting.

Moose or Elk. Check for the width of the toothmarks to help figure out which one.

I'm not sure how Moose or Elk could get between all those branches in the third picture. If the OP is sure this is not porcupine (my first guess), I'm puzzled. Too high for rabbits, especially this year.

Thanks guys.

I was wondering about the markings on the second tree (third picture) as they do appear different that the ones on the first tree (first and second picture). The small shrubs where trampled around the base of the first tree but as noted the branches where left on the second tree. Maybe we are dealing with two different animals. I will try and get out there tomorrow night before it gets dark, make some measurements from the first tree and then post them.

Moose or elk check on the ground for some of that bark that's been processed. I'm guessing porcupine.

Could be moose (not elk) on one photo, but seeing the branches on the other photo, I would go porcupine
