It's been really slow for me also. Not too many sets out, but only 1 marten and one fisher. I think the available natural food sources are so plentiful that they are ignoring our sets.

Slower. 4 marten; 8 weasel; couple red squirrel. Hoping for a couple marten , a Lynx and fisher on my next check.
Small prey species are doing better this year.

Late start for me. Heading out for the first time tomorrow and Sunday. Hope to see some good tracks. One spot usually pays off for otter

Having lots of fun targetting a wide variety of species this year. 6 species so far and shooting for 8. Caught my first mink the other day along the river. I'll admit i was super excited my 4 year old looked at me like i was nuts.

Mink
What kind of set did you use for the mink and what kind of bait. Did you use lure.

Dfrain, you mentioned lots of fisher, generally when good fisher numbers marten seem to drop off. Tork mentioned awhile back his neighbour line was catching maybe 15 fisher and 5 marten, then after trimmed fisher back his marten went upto to something like 20 and fisher dropped to 5.

Not to derail the op but what have you all done to specifically target fisher to help your marten numbers? Just had a marten that was caught in a 120 and trap was not ejected from the box , mr fisher came through and ate the marten. Only the marten head was left in the trap.
I guess I'm asking what is your go to fisher setup and how do you or could you target only fisher.

That's all I do. Just wondering how to help the marten out by taking a few more fisher. Saw a few different spots on the line yesterday with fisher tracks. One was a big fisher. Hopefully I get him.

Box under a snag on the bank, baited with beaver. Had a little open water right by it.

I like to use larger box with 160 trap for fisher. Also could use horizontal fisher pole set with trap on each side of larger bait. Keg has lots of good ideas for fisher sets. However caught many fisher in marten boxes. One large fisher broke chain but still laying under snow couple years back.

Been a great year on my line so far. Up to 81 marten already! Otter's are pretty slow as the river is so frozen this year. No holes in the ice for the otters to pop through.
