Default Metallic Handgun Silhouette Shooting

Cranbrook Rod and Gun Club Sunday November 14th 10:30am.
5.00 Entry Fee.
Prizes to top shooter, Last Place, and 3 random draws (so far)

We had our first 'trial shoot today, and just by word of mouth had 10 shooters show up to try their stuff out on our range.

Basically prizes are 50% of the # of entrants.

It was a blast. We are using small bore rifle silhouette targets set at 10/15/20/25 yards. Rimfire .22 pistol only using IMHSA rules. As we are keeping this sporting event as a 'budget' style shooting, no optics are allowed, 10" barrel length maximum.

So the testing went well, all parties who came from the word of mouth sure had a great time, and so the invitation goes out to you folks in Alberta as well.

If you do plan to come out please let me know in advance if you can. We have the capability to run 40 shooters on 8 man strings. And boy does it test out all aspects of gun handling mechanics (IPSC/IPDA Guys take note here)

So, that's it in a nutshell, hope to see you there!

Excellent turnout. It was a great day for shooting. Weather held fine all day, Hot Coffee and Timmy's rounded out some available snacks, and the clubhouse was warm and we even had a fire going in the outside ring to swap bs around. Temp was probably 5 degrees, and most came overdressed.

It was very interesting to note: A lot of shooters tend to sneer a little at shooting .22 rimfire. It isn't ''manly'' enough, or the size bothers them 'not really a mans' gun. We've all heard the cliches before.
Even some off hand comments from the new shooters such as 'it doesn't look all that hard, targets are only 10,15,20,25 yards out there. Ahh but there is a twist. We are following the IMHSA rules for the most part, but the size of the targets, for the curious? Those are smallbore RIFLE targets set at those ranges to keep the IMHSA range ratios correct.
Well, a few naysayers of 'how tough can it be' were soon inventing new words, and repeating time tested favorites when they missed.
It was priceless looking at the few Master Class IPSC shooters we had today. Their faces when they miseed targets, bordered on utter disbelief! And when shooters (newbies and IPSC guys) connected, the smiles were very wide indeed.
After all squads had shot their first 40 round string, the comments were unreal. Most members could swear the targets they left standing were LAUGHING at them... as if to egg them on and dare them to knock those little metal pieces off the stand.
Emotions and camaraderie were in huge quantity, with a little good natured ribbing here and there of course. Some good goofs were accidentally shooting your neighbors targets, a few shot off the wrong bank first (instead of starting at the bottom row (L>R) , and even a few that lost their shot count, and used more than one round on an animal.

This game seems to have scratched an itch in a lot of members.
1. It's cheap to shoot. 5 buck entry
2. It's cheap to shoot (4-5 boxes of .22LR)
3. It teaches and touches upon proper safety with firearms
4. It really really shows up flaws in trigger and hand pressures and positions on the firearm
5. It's flat-out fun.

Will post more pictures as they become available, hope to see even more faces on the 28th!

Start time 10:30 AM this sunday for another round of handgun silhouettes!

Hot dogs will be served as well as hot coffee, and the fire pit should be blazin'

I hope to see a couple Alberta Outdoorsmen out there. I'd like to see some other 'crack shots' backing up their brag

Cranbrook Rod and Gun Club.

See you there (if you dare!)

Another fine day for shooting. Shot a personal best of 52/80 and we even had a new shooter school some of the old gaurd.

Top honours went to Jim Zim (zimmerman) who as most will know was a nationally ranked smallbore and big bore rifle shooter, and he had 68/80

And some more pictures....

total of 18 shooters were in attendance, Lunch was hotdogs with coffee, supplied by the event organizers, top spot paid out a free shoot, then there were 3 hats donated by auto dealers (North Star Motors and Alpine Toyota of Cranbrook, thank you) Some other swag such as pencils, work gloves, kercheif's and other goodies (Alpine Toyota)
And some more American Eagle Ammunition (Thanks To Mountain Man Outdoors Cranbrook)

So with the sponsors, a huge thanks, and to all in attendance, see you at the next shoot! More than likely, same format, we will provide a lunch, prizes for the top 3 shooters, and draws for 3 more prizes. Coffee will be ready to go etc.

Shoot this Sunday at Cranbrook Rod and Gun Club.

10:00 AM.

5 bucks gets you 3 rounds (120 total) targets, coffee and lunch will be provided!

There will be lots of .22 Pistols on hand, so even if you do not own a .22 yourself, come anyhow!

American Eagle Solids .40gr or Hollow points work very well.

Everyone welcome! (Including the public!)

Pics from Todays Shoot.

Top Gun : Kevin with a stunning 74/120

2nd : Tom (resident IPSC Master Class Shooter) with a very strong 67/120

3rd : Yours truly, although I shot like poop! 62/120

Pics as shown.

We are now shooting the smallbore rifle targets with EXACTLY the same scaled sight pictures as a full IHMSA sanctioned shoot, but at reduced distance (hence the reduced target size.

If you think you are a good shot.... well I got news for 99% of the people out there with handguns.
Even our resident Bullseye expert shooter (Gary Dolynchuck) could only muster a 22/40 when he tried his hand at this.

Bandidos is played at the end which is always a crowd pleaser, and of course lunch was served with plenty of hot coffee and good smiles.

All done for the bargain price of 5.00 per entrant.

We are planning a windup party in April, Very nice prizes, a Model 41 Pistol will be drawn for, and some other assorted goodies.

Guys who really want to set this up in their own clubs to keep activity going all year round, feel free to send me a PM and If I can help you out in the set up, let me know.

So here are just a couple of pics from today.
