While I’m not into re loading yet... there is something to be said for high Sectional Density bullets. One of the reasons the 6.5swede is a good hunting cartridge. A 140 grain 6.5 has a better SD than a .338 cal at 225grains.
Wether punching paper or hunting animals a heavy for caliber bullet is my choice . Even heavier if the twist rate is sufficient and the bullet can be stabilized

If they shoot for you don’t fret about the bullet weight.

I run what I run because that’s what just happens to shoot well in the given rifles. The boys .260 runs 120 Amax’s and 123 SST’s very well, but the 130 Accubond’s run that much better that those are his go to hunting bullets.

I need you to dumb this down a bit for me. I don't know all the different powders, and bullets.

I bought my son a Tika T3 6.5 x 55. I've bought exclusively Nosler 140g trophy grade for it, thinking we will sight it in for this cartridge and stick with it.

Is that a decent cartridge?

It’s a great cartridge with a good reputation that’s been around for 125 years.

Your choice of ammunition has no flys on it either, as long as your happy with the accuracy, I’d say why change.

Now if I were to look at any change here, it would be to start reloading for this cartridge. Reloading 6.5x55 in a modern action will push this cartridges performance into a whole new realm.

The thing about the smaller capacity 6.5mm cartridges, like the Creedmoor and 6.5x55, is that the velocities are low enough, that most cup and core bullets will perform very well in them.

[I][/ ...And that sums it up,pretty wellsold/traded off my6.5x54ms but still have a PORTUGEUSE mauser, mfg. 1904.
it''likes'' 140 Hornadys, but also likes 160 RN, ( NOT .267 dia.)

lighter projectiles, not so much..............don't get too hung up on S.D.orB.C
its like a lot of things in life, READ all about something, become an EXPERT
but oft times you will find that what works best is NOT what ya read.......
anyone here old enough to remember the old cup and core that took game every year ,that is until even the little VANCOUVER Island black tails grew kevlar hides..

I don't know if I will ever find the time to start reloading, but better performance- who can argue with that?

I wish you could buy re-loaded ammunition.

That's the one I was aiming for.

Pardon the pun

95grs. to 143 ELDX....Mostly I stay in the heavy for caliber range...I like the Bergers in 140 VLD hunter but the 143 EldX are as or more accurate out of my rifles. (.260 and 6.5x55)..

Trades I would interested in:
- Sightron rifle scopes, 4.5x14x42mm or 4x16x42mm
especially! with the HHR reticle. (no duplex pls.)
- older 6x fixed scopes with fine X or target dot.
