Unfortunately just heard from the Nikon rep...Nikon is out of hunting.
A number of reasons...financial and the fact that Nikon has always taken heat from the photo crowd and birding crowd that they don't like hunting.

This is the same reason Bausch & Lomb removed their own name from hunting scopes and reverted to their old brand name "Bushnell" a few years ago.

Too bad Nikon. I had just bought a stabilized rangefinder... had I known or been paying attention I would have spent the money with Leupold

PR in Lloyd sells an unbelievable number of Nikon products. Pretty sure they wouldn't post this unless it was true. I wouldn't consider it 'speculation'

Nikon and Canon are in deep financial trouble, primarily due to the collapse of the camera business.
They are in restructuring and looking for ways to improve the bottom line.
In Nikon's case the riflescope business has been a small sideline in a sector that has immense competition.
It does not need any conspiracy theory to guess why they might exit the riflescope business.
Any business decision goes where the money leads, or the company does not survive.

Yes, it is partly (mainly completely financial)...but in the U.S. they sell a lot of riflescopes.
And as this article shows, it can also be due to other issues https://www.dpreview.com/articles/34...g-rifle-scopes
Their camera sales are far to big to risk.

It is true and on top of that the "Lifetime Warranty" is now void. They will no longer be honouring that. Unless they actually declare bankruptcy I am not sure they will get away with that but they are trying to. Gives me a lot of respect for these bandits, NOT! Don't have any, glad I don't. Will stick to Leupold, Swaro and Zeiss where scopes is a major part of their business.

Swarovski Optik is actually a very small part of Swarovski Group. But you are most likely safe as far as their commitment to the business of sporting optics.

If Nikon doesn't make some changes really soon it will be more than just their scopes gone.

The company is operating at cloae a loss and the last fiscal statement they released doesn't look good for them. Some sources predict an end of their imaging division by 2021 if they don't make some changes.

Thinking the rifle scope business is very competitive and Nikon isn't one of the bigger names. I would expect they'd keep making spotting scopes, or not ?

Unfortunate. I have used Nikon scopes for years and always had excellent luck with them.
