Default Something is eating my bean stalk

little too late but Last week I find that the leaves on my beans are wilting I thought it was not enough water so I soaked and it has not improved so after a closer inspection. They all been cut/chewed off at the foot about 4 inch Above the soil .. I think it might be mice. All of those still have beans on it. I was able to salvage about 3 lbs from all the damage/ dead stalks .

Some peanut butter and a mouse trap will tell you quite quickly.

Early season the cutworms attack my bean plants at the soil surface.
Later in the year this kind of damage is often slugs. We sprinkle slug bait around the base of plants.
We seem to have slugs under control this year.
Last year they were a plague.

Had a pocket gopher get under the fence into garden, took me a week to catch this guy , in the meantime it got every single bean plant.
It was like a bugs bunny cartoon. 3or 4 pulled down each day.
