Ha yeah. He hit some sage brush! They showed it in slow motion after. I'm pretty sure I would have passed out or had a panic attack if I had my crosshairs on that Ram

Great video, awesome ram. In the video they talk of it being the state record but the post calls it the world record. Did this ram beat the alberta world record ram? or was it the world record at one time. Either way that is one heck of a ram.

I believe it is an SCI world record for California Big horn ... a "subspecies" not individually recognized by B&C ( ie B&C consider them the same as big horns)

exactly. another case of sci creating more ways to pat themselves on the back. kinda like shiras moose in BC.....sorry, those are canada moose. when they cant take trophies on their own merit they start creating systems that suit their needs. of course that still takes nothing away from that ram. its a big honkin sheep no matter what you call it.

Not entirely true, B&C consider SE BC moose shiras ...but not the ones in SW AB

www.env.gov.bc.ca/wld/documents/moose.pdf

Even the goverment of BC considers the moose present in the SE corner to be Alces alces shirasi

no the canada us border is the boundary for canada moose except for the northeast states.

http://www.boone-crockett.org/bgreco...area=bgrecords

specifically......

The Shiras’ moose category has the Canadian border as its northern boundary. Its range includes all of the Rocky Mountain region south of Canada and west to the Pacific Ocean, including the following states: Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

keep in mind that dna from all moose is the same, and trophy records are only separate due to the size difference as you go north. being that B&C is the oldest and arguably the most respected organization for records keeping, im going by their recommendations.

i freely admit that i have a huge bias against sci for their love of patting themselves on the back for shooting tame animals in pens. i think that practice has too many negative aspects particularly in the eyes of the nonhunting public. ive said it many times, they do a lot of great conservation work, but i cannot support them as long as this is happening.

So B&C are the absolute authority on the distribution and classification of mammals in North America? ... not defending SCI, just saying, the biologist consider SE BC moose shiras ... but then again biologist are dumb ;(

like i said, genetically, they are the same beast. kinda like an alaskan brown bear is genetically a grizzly. it is the scoring guys that have separated them, not biologists. take a dna sample form a moose at whitecourt, his dna code is the same as one from southern utah and another one from the alaskan coast.

now at the canadian border, does a moose wander along a trail and change from a canada moose into a shiras, then back into a canada moose as he meanders along? according to the scoring club...yes he does.

Again, not entirely true ... subspecies are not always separated based on DNA, most of the time they are separated based on geographical criteria ( habitat) ,diet preferences, sutble differences in their morphology ( apppearance) etc... and yes they do wonder across borders .. and yes the biologist do classify them this way , your bear example Brown Bears - Ursus arctos , further divived into Ursus arctos horribilis aka Grizzly Bear , Ursus arctos middendorfi aka Alaskan / Kodiak Brown Bear and many more

ok PB....ill give it to you. my point was kinda that SCI sucks and makes up their own rules to suit their needs. at least they havent stooped as low as GSCO and sued another conservation group over words......
