Question Anyone visited St Maarten in the last 3-4 months?

We usually go there for a vacation but had to cancel ours last January due to the hurricane. So I’m wondering how the recovery is coming along? Anyone been down there lately? Not much for recent updates online. Planning a trip for next January.

I would guess your best bet would be trip adviser forum for this. Being that the hurricane was that long ago I dont see how you it would be an issue.

I loved our trip to st martens. We had a blast.

I can update you in a few days, when my friend gets back...
He stopped over in St. Martin on his way to St. Barts, not sure when he gets home.

I am sitting in a villa in Orient Beach as I type this. We just spent a week here (after a week on Anguilla) what would you like to know?

The island as beautiful as it was before Irma. There are few buildings that are still in ruins and there are a few ruins that need to be taken down. French side is in worst shape compare to the Dutch side. But... the water is warm and the sand is soft and clean!

This island has been our usual vac spot since we “discovered” it in 2004. Been visiting it every year(almost) since. Except last year, we cancelled also due to the Irma. We just finished a 7 days cruise with friends visiting Bahamas, Tortola, St.Thomas and these island are very pretty but not even close to what St.Maarten has to offer. Been to Curaçao and Dominican Rep, Mexico etc- nothing beats SXM.

We only spent a day there on a cruise in 2005, and only were on the Dutch side, but were taken aback at how clean it was, and how friendly the people were. I would love to return. Where are you staying?

We always stay on a Dutch side area close to Maho. Rent private apartments via VRBO or AIRBB.
Here is a view from our balcony on a night of arrival...

Mullet Bay, far left side of it towards Cupecoy. Away from the vendors and chair crowd. Just like we like it
Here is the busy side of it

Lived there for 2 years, know a few people there. Of course things were damaged but the island has recovered beautifully and the people are amazing. I worked in a dive shop while there so I know the island, met a bunch of people. Please feel free to send any questions my way and I have the place to go to if you wanna dive!

I lived right behind the casino by this beach, by far my favourite beach on the island. 3 minute barefoot walk to the sand, couldn’t be beat!

Casino took a big hit from Irma, the front of it by the road is completely gone along with the restaurants. They are doing renovations there as we speak.

Swim, eat, drink, walk the beach. Repeat as often as possible, lol!
Sand gravity takes over the moment we land...
The fresh French crepes for breakfast are hard to beat!
