River fishing for 15 yr old near Rocky

Looking for some help from the fly fishing community for my 15 yr old son.

He really has taken to fly fishing and luvs it.

Clearly, I want to support him in that.

We are going to be near RMH over the next two weekends.

My son wants to try river/stream fishing for trout.

He has done well with his fly rod at several of the stocked ponds.

He is pretty good with his casting.

Any suggestions for a good location?

Unfortunately you will probably have to wait until next weekend...most of the streams and rivers in that area are blown out after the recent rains.

Thanks italk2u. I thought that may be the case considering the NSR in Edmonton.

Any rivers/streams you would suggest once they return to normal?

Staufer creek is close by, so is Falls Creek and the Tay River to name a few of the smaller flowing streams in the area.

They may be running high, but not as high as the Medicine, Clearwater, or NSR rivers.

A day checking out the waters I mentioned beats sitting at home wishing their was clear water out their.

Not familliar with falls but i would say the tay and the stauffer(north raven) are a bit too technical for a youngster just starting out...too many "fly-eating bushes" on both.

It's still fishing though. Might be a bit harder but not impossible.
