Default Another Newbie Intro

Hey Folks,

I've been lurking for a few days now and thought I'd register and post something. I'm originally from Florida but have been living in Saskatchewan for almost 9 years now (kind of hard to believe it's been that long). I like to hike and fish, but I've never hunted (definitely interested in hunting though). I also love to make and drink beer!

I always wanted to move to Alberta but things kept getting in the way over the years. I spent a few summers in the Calgary area in the late 90s and love the Canadian Rockies (I had a short, 3-day trip through Calgary and Banff last year that served as extra motivation to get my butt out there). Saskatchewan has nice people and is laid back, but I find it really really boring here (And Regina is so flat).

How difficult is it to get a job in the Calgary area when you're in another province? I'm terrified of moving without a job offer. I assume it was a lot easier during the boom times.

I've been reading some of the threads on power engineering and am quite interested. I plan on reading and researching much more about this as the month goes along. I may even have some questions for those of you that are power engineers, so I'm warning you now.

Welcome to the forum, lots of jobs in cow town. Seems to be jobs everywhere in AB and SK. To bad you are in Regina, I am moving to Saskatoon next month and would love to get together for fishing on a weekend.

Hey, Im an electrical designer in cow town, its getting busy here again, have a look at workopolis and the phone book and send off some resumes. There was a lot of engineers pounding the pavement a year and a half ago, but lots of them are hiring now. Calgary's got its pros and cons but its where I'm proud to call home.

As an indicator, I notice more and more help wanted signs lately around the city at fast food joints and Starbucks. Also, lots of good job postings on workopolis, eluta, calgary job shop, monster, etc....All good signs that things are picking up. Apply on line and see what happens.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I'm a web designer/support analyst, but if I had to choose from the two, I prefer the support side of IT (help desk/tech support).

I'm seriously thinking about power engineering if I can get my head around the math, chemistry, and physics (it's been a long time since I've taken any of those courses).
