Spring Bear

The spring bear hunt can be tough, what with the bugs and mud, but the advantage goes to hunter, no leaves, not much for bears to eat.
Basics apply, Place the bait in thick brush,with narrow twig free shooting lane, tree stand high and well hidden as possible, sun and wind to your best advantage.
To attract the bears I use to fill a 45 gal drum with moose cuttings, seal and leave over the summer, spring time ladle out into a brin sack placed in 5 gal buckets, when about a half mile from the bait site, tie a rope on and drag to the bait site and nail as high as possible in a tree close to the bait,from a couple of direction if possible, the single hunter can scale own but you get the idea, very effective. Try and keep the vehicle well hidden, 200 m from the bait site, door slamming,talking, advantage bear. Walk to the bait site slowly,rifle ready, every year i have successful hunters back to camp early because they did so.

Im excited to go spot and stalk again with archery gear both my bears last year were both takin this way one with rifle other with archery gear. Going back in same spot i took both of mine

Yes, you are right bear baiting is not hunting, it is something else. I liked to hunt bears in the fall in semi broken open country, in an area of good blue berry crop. Take a position on a high ridge, and glass.An old trapper told me how to make this work, dont look for a bear look for a black spot,when it disappeared,you have saw a bear began the upwind stalk. During a 10 day moose hunt we picked up the limit of two bears each,that was real bear hunting.

It’s all real hunting even if it’s not your particular style.

For sure its all real,I skinned over 60 black bears just this past two years----The new camp in Wawa should have 150 hunters this year my job is to bring the bears in,the bait will do that----The hardest part convince clients how to hunt, and were to shoot.
