Snow removal sw calgary
I've hit the age that I no longer want to shovel snow from my driveway and sidewalk located in SW Calgary.
We have used Men in Kilts for cleaning our eaves trough and they did a good job. So I have asked for a quote.
Has any one used Men in Quilts for snow removal at your residence? Its not only the price but the quality of their work, timeliness etc. They would like a 7 month contract from Oct 1 to Apr 30 (pro rated as Nov is almost here). They have a monthly contract as well but it only provides for a limited number of days per month.
If anyone can recommend a good contractor, please share the info.

If your in the city, get yourself a used $400 26inch+ Snow blower & don't look
back. Waiting on people to show up gets old fast, or if you suddenly have plans to get out of a heavy snowfall filled yard, fire up the blower.

Seems like most of the retired guys on our crescent are running either gas or cordless, lightweight, single stage, paddle driven machines. Toro or Ego seem the most common.
If you can still get around and like to be outside, it's worth considering.

Its kind of a shame that reliable teenagers in the neighborhood seem to be rarity.
That being said, I know the owner of Russell's Lawn Service and he's a trustworthy fellow, plus he's located in the same general area of S.W Calgary. He started out as the very reliable neighborhood teenager that I was lamenting see difficult to find and his business grew.

The contract scam is a huge 1. Pay upfront per month, whether it snows or not, and they show half the time.

I’ve used kilts for the last 4 years, the only cleaners that will come twice a day if it continues snowing

Just curious Sir, wondering what your monthly fee's are for snow removal,say like in YEG ?? I know, I know, I should never ask for a price cuz if I do I probably can't afford it

I am with big Ken on this one. Work out a deal say $10 per shoveling (I think that is a decent price Sunny) and work it into a monthly fee. I think a kid would jump at a chance to make $75-$100 in a month....especially if he is being paid when it is not snowing.. 
Call around to see what a contract snow removal is?
Remember to pay at the end of the month, not at the beginning.....haha.
Note: Make sure he understands your expectations.

In our area there are lots of kids looking for $$ for shoveling and mowing.
A few even joined forces so they work as 3. Worth checking.
Problem with removal companies is whether you are at the start or end of their route. Friend was on a service yet they only got to the place around 4 pm.
Ask when yours would get done after an overnight storm. If they do commercial, residential is last.

Maybe I worded that incorrectly?
I never would do a monthly fee, hourly only.
Most snow clearing businesses charge monthly, that is why they are out at 3 am in the middle of a storm getting ahead of it, or they would never keep up.

Thanks, everyone. Lots of good advise.
I have decided to go with Kilts on a monthly contract. They are contracted to have someone come by each day, fair or foul weather, and do whatever is necessary.
I'll review everything next year and let everyone know how it works out.

Yikes. Thats crappy. Every get an estimate for repairs?

To fix, near $1000 for a $2500 machine.
It did blow snow really good before the leak though, another issue was somehow water would 'always' find
it's way into the oil, I changed the oil in it in April, checked it just 2weeks ago, sure enough, looked like
white pastey glue on dipstick.. I have a sour outlook on Toro's now. Lol.

Get the 721 E Toro snow thrower with the rubber paddle
way way better that the old style metal larger ones
I do commercial snow removal and have 9 of those guys awesome units

Tried my neighbours last winter. Love it, way easier than my old clunker. Them rubber paddle units really chew threw the snow.
