Default Central Library

As RavYak mentioned, the copy at the Central Library is definitely worth spending a few evenings there and taking some notes.

I got a copy for myself last week off of Ebay, not as sweet a deal as some of you found and got for yourselves, but at least I got my copy and it will remain with me for eternity.

So far it hasn't made me a better fly fisherman!!

You don't catch trout reading a book, just get out there and do it!

Oh I'm out there fishing with the fly rod! I was just saying what you did only using different words.

I'm enjoying my book, too!

The book I was talking about earlier is called " barry whites intimate secrets about fly fishing - My bow river"

Got a ton of information in it like hatch charts and reading flow patterns and all that . Not through the whole thing yet but so far it's pretty good.

I’ve been reading some of Barry’s stuff and all I can say is “Wow. If only I could spend a day on the river with him. Truly an artist, in fishing and writing.

Sorry for digging up old threads, I stumbled across this. I’m glad to see people enjoyed Barry’s book, oddly I’ve never read it even thou I think I have 3 of them all autographed P.S I will never sell them sorry! I have the pleasure of living next door to Barry and his wife. I miss him, we had lots of talks over the fence. My son from the time he could talk would chat with Barry thru the fence, Barry would always stop and chat. Our only regrets was Barry had planned on taking him fishing but sadly became too sick and it just never came about!

He was a Great man!
And a Great neighbour!

As Rocky.Mtn suggests, go to your local library. If the book's not there, order it for free through interlibrary loan. Then photocopy the relevant sections. Simple, informative, and cheap. Or snap it with your phone. Even cheaper.

If Barry only knew his book would become such a collectable! Books like this are great to read right at the end of hard-water season (like right now). It get's you fired up for chucking string. After you spend a fortune on the book you will end up spending another fortune buying tackle, tents, 4x4s etc. so you are ready for the mighty trunk road. At least how it goes for me.

-It is nice to see that the trout pond at Heritage Ranch in Red Deer has been named the Barry Mitchel pond.

$1000 easy, based on the outrageous prices people pay for these.

I have a copy of Haig-Brown's A Primer of Flyfishing, 1st Edition (iirc) in dust jacket, with a note in it from the previous owner about Haig-Brown speaking at their club and a folded newspaper clipping holding some flies tied by Haig-Brown from that presentation.

I'll start the bidding at $1500...

If you have a book. PM me a price. I can then decide if I am willing to pay that much.

Of course, my price is both ridiculous and unreasonable.
